Is it unheard of for people to score bad on prac tests, then destroy the MCAT?

Say people who receive 19s-22s or 23s-25s on practice tests end up scoring a 30+ on the real thing. Has that happened on here at all?

Yeah definitely. On my first practice exam (AAMC 3, I think. It was the free one) I scored a 22 after studying for close to 3 months. It kind of broke my spirits. But then the next day I took AAMC 8 and got a 30 and stayed just about there. So it's definitely possible. Don't put too much stock into a practice exam, especially if it's only one exam.

I thought the actual MCAT was a little easier than the practice exams (except AAMC 3, still don't know how I did so bad, maybe it was because it was my first timed exam). I haven't got it back graded yet, but I'm optimistic.

One medical student told me this happened to them.

However, I seriously doubt this is the norm.

There is a much better chance of the opposite happening. i.e. destory the practice and get a 22 on the real thing.

It def happens but not that much variation. Someone scoring in 22s can end up with 26-27 but def not a 30

For probably 95% of people, your real MCAT score will be +/- 2 points from your average AAMC Practice test scores.

Statistically, chances are slim. The full-length AAMC practice tests are, on average, a great predictor to your MCAT success. So stop making excuses and keep studying 🙂.

A friend of mine scored around a 32-34 on his AAMC practice tests and scored a 39 on the real thing.😱

Really its the volatility of the test and the curve. A few questions can really increase your score. Add that with concepts that you know really well that show up on the test and you have a perfect storm. So, yes its possible, but not likely.

If it was a diagnostic for one of the companies you usually score lower at first so they can get you to buy/use the program and not be able to use the money back guarantee.
