I am on hold at one DO school. The school said they will re-review my application for a decision (whether to be interviewed or rejected) a few months from now (which seems extremely long as it is almost mid Jan). Is there any harm in showing further interest to the school by e-mailing admissions and politely asking if my application could be re-reviewed sooner because AACOMAS recently this week updated my grades from fall 2012?

Thank you for input. 🙂

I don't think it's unprofessional, write a polite letter asking if its possible and regardless of the answer thank them for answering. Best of luck.

There's probably a better way of saying it without directly saying it. You may consider writing an update letter, mentioning your newest grades as well as anything else substantial that you've accomplished since your last correspondence. Express your interest. Good luck.

Send an update letter.

Seconded/thirded. Don't request to be looked at sooner - every person on hold wants that, and there are a lot of you - but let them know what you've been doing and that you're still very interested. They may or may not come to a decision sooner as a result, but when they do you will be however much stronger as a candidate. If you wind up on wait lists after interview, same deal. I'm convinced that helped get me off at least a couple of wait lists and accepted at those schools.

Best of luck!

I asked to have my application expedited and got a rejection email an hour later.

I don't think it's because you asked, unless you asked in a rude way. They probably reviewed your application and determined you weren't competitive.

When I was a applying for residency, I wrote a few programs that I didn't hear from. Some rejected me the next day and some invited me the next day.

I had a nice friendly 10 minute chat with an admissions lady who forwarded my request to Dean of admissions. Personally, I'd rather be rejected than sit around in limbo.

Not unprofessional, but annoying. Just update as recommended by the posters above this one.

I was put 'on hold' essentially at a school, and I contacted them and politely told them that I had received other acceptances, but the school was my first choice (all true, not just bs). They understood, but it definitely didn't expedite my application any. It's just the way the process things, and I knew I wasn't going to do anything to change it.

Best of luck!

Update letter, echoed.

Assuming you get an interview once re-reviewed you will most likely be interviewing for a waitlist spot.

You're asking for an expedited answer because you're better than all the other applicants, right? If so, I wouldn't want to hold you from squandering any more time at my program when you've already got an acceptance or wait-list position at another one. You would, at least be moved from the "accepted without concerns" pile to the "accepted with concerns pile" if it were up to me. Make sure you're not sending a Letter of Intent letter either, that looks bad if you send it to more than one school and you might need to play that card later. The DO world is very small and everyone talks to each other. A letter stating what additional extra-curricular activities that are medically related you've done since your app was submitted would be much better than one that has just updated grades.
