I saw somewhere that West Virginia accepts something around 20% of out of state applicants and UNC had similar statistics. However I looked at WVU's website and the majority of the out of state students had "a connection to West Virginia" or something along those lines. Have any OOS students had luck being accepted to these schools/what are your thoughts on applying?

I can't give you any really specialized, personal advice in terms of whether or not you should apply to these schools. What I can do is tell you that I removed them from my own list long ago. It didn't seem like a smart choice being a fellow OOS applicant in my eyes. Have you had the opportunity to come across the stats for these schools in the ADEA Guide by chance?

I was just about to post this exact same thread. OOS for UNC looks gloomy. The price tag is appealing even for OOS.

Does anyone know if UNC allows you to become a resident after one year?

Yes, you can apply to be a resident. However, I wouldn't apply to UNC unless you're actually enamored with their program. I interview there and personally hated it.

OOS admissions are very slim. You have to have very good stats and then interview well (who you get is a crapshoot even though you have 3). I left 90 minutes early to go watch football b/c I knew it wasn't for me.

I'm also interested in the OOS stats. I really want UNC, but the more I look into it, the bleaker it looks for me since I'm OOS. Can anyone shed any more light?

Care to elaborate?
