This may be a strange question, but here it goes:

1. If you wanted to be a DO or MD, but it didn't really matter either way as long as your a doctor in the end. (but leaning more to DO because of the dogma)

2. If there are 2 schools in the same state, for example UMDNJ -New Jersey Medical School (MD) in North Jersey- (very urban/city/ high traffic area) vs. UMDNJ-SOM (DO) 2 1/2 hours away in South Jersey- (quiet/suburban)

-- both are great schools under the same system, but if UMDNJ-SOM had a nicer campus (aesthetically--sp??) and NJMed is closer to your home (possibly saving thousands of dollars)

which would you choose (or prefer)?

--close to home or nicer academic environment?

Save money. Medical education is closely scrutinized. YOu really won't get a much better education at one school over another.

Q, DO

You really should consider location when chosing between schools. You are going to be living in that place for at least 4 years. Can you imagine hating your location and trying to do well in school. We have been living in the greater D.C. area for 4 months now and absolutely HATE IT WITH A PASSION!!!!

Belive me it makes you in a bad mood all the time if you hate where you are living.

As to MD vs DO based on money. I don't know what to tell you. Just pick what you are going to be most happy being and doing for the rest of your life.

I agree with the money aspect of it to a point. But PCOM was my first choice whereas UCONN was my state school.

I was in Philly for undergrad so I wanted to stay here. Looking back I don't regret my decision one bit. I have built of my desire to learn OMM and use it in practice.

The MD/DO decision is a bit tougher than one MD schools vs anorher or one DO schools vs another. Those decisions go with location, money, and your overall impression of the school.

DO vs MD...think about this one more carefully.

But Quinn is right...when it comes down to it, there ain't a whole lot of difference sometimes.
