Is mid'/late June MCAT too late to be considered "early"?

All other aspects of my application are in good/great standing but I want to work on the MCAT a bit more before finally taking the exam.
AMCAS willl likely be submitted early without the score but if I take the exam in mid/late June (score is released mid July), is that going to hurt my chances?

What about early June vs mid June?

Please let me know!

Thanks

I submitted mine Mid-June and it was no issue. You’re fine.

Does this hold true for the more competitive schools as well?
I do want to at least aim for one of the upper tier schools and I'd like to know if they receive the full set of my (AMCAS + MCAT score) in mid July that it wouldn't be considered "late" etc...

Thank you!

The bigger risks are:
  • short-changing your MCAT studying to better prepare your application
  • short-changing your application in favor of MCAT studying
  • or having a surprise MCAT score that makes your initial application list unsuitable.

I took my MCAT in July and worked on my application right after I took it and was ready to submit when my scores came out. If you submit in July you will be just fine! The only risk I would say is if you didn't get the score you wanted and you wanted to take it again you might have to wait until the following cycle (nothing wrong with this though). Good luck with the upcoming cycle.

Keep in mind that AMCAS doesn't release any completed applications to schools until very-late June to very-early-July timeframe (6/29/18 this year).

Can anyone comment on when schools actually srsly look at applications and decide on IIs? I think @gonnif said it wasn't until mid-July? Or is it later?

At the very earlisr mid July and those are likely EDP. Application files have to be complete, fully evaluated and decided upon. No matter how early you put your application, you can easily be waiting 3 months before any action is taken. So as I say ro all: CTFO

I see. Then why do people freak out if they don't get their apps in early June lol And why does the majority of SDN say submitting mid-late June or even early July is too late to be competitive? One pre-med advisor I know tells all his applicants not to apply that year if their AMCAS isn't in by June 20th, so I'm confused 😕 If the applicant pre-writes secondaries and is complete by August 1st, wouldn't they still be competitive and early according to what you're saying?

I've seen so many people get hyped up to make sure they submit their primary the hour that submission opens. Usually these were previously unsuccessful applicants who, lo and behold, placed their entire lack of success on applying late.

I think that these people tend to give applicants a false sense of urgency to the point where some people (I'm being serious) have panic attacks over not submitting the day primary opens.

Applying June 1st over June 15th will not make any real difference in the long run. I'm sure schools are aware that very strong candidates will apply later.

It may take 2, 4, even 6 weeks or more to get your application verified then submitted to a school.

Hasn't this improved in the last few years? In think 2 cycles ago the peak delay was only 3 weeks for most people who did it correctly.

Okay! So I think after my scores come out, my application will be verified/complete by late July. So.. I'm hoping that will still be good!
Thanks everyone. Idk why ppl on sdn are so adamant about getting it submitted on the FIRST day/week that AMCAS opens.. haha
