I took a college course Principles of Inheritance in high school.
I got an F. It was 3 credits.
BIO120 (Liberal Arts) Principles of Inheritance and Human Reproduction 3 hrs. 3 crs. An introduction to the genetics and chemistry of biological macromolecules, including DNA, RNA, and enzymes, and an examination of their role in life processes. Genetics and biology of sexual reproduction; embryonic growth and development. Not credited toward fulfillment of Biology major requirements. Not open to students with credit in a 200 level Biology course.

I go to another college that does not have that specific course.
However, I took Introduction to Bio and received an A.
This course is 4 credits. Does the A replace the F?
  • For students who plan to concentrate in the natural sciences or environmental science, and for premedical students. Required for biology concentrators. No prerequisite. High school biology is assumed. The evolution and diversity of life; principles of ecology; behavioral biology. Three hours lecture, three hours lab including several field studies. Carries natural science divisional credit (with lab) in CAS.

Im also taking the next Bio Course.
Will this replace?
Biology II
Cell and molecular biology, Mendelian & molecular genetics, physiology, and neurobiology. Three hours lecture, three hours lab. Carries natural science divisional credit (with lab) in CAS.

To replace your F? No. Very different courses.

Your F class sounds like something you can find at a CC. Find one and take it there

I think the second Bio class might satisfy... Or maybe a genetics course. I will call AACOM tomorrow and ask.

Thanks!

No - different courses. The title does not need to be the same but the material needs to be along same lines. You are trying to replace an intro to genetics course with an intro to gen bio. Different courses in my opinion. Very different, I may add. Sorry mate.

I disagree. His F sounds like a genetics course and that will be harder to find at a CC. I would check local universities.

this grade replacement thing is too unclear

i might just apply to md schools with the F since im thinking of a surgical route

plus, shadowing md is easier than do imo

Lol. Homie, I agree it's unclear but not this particular rule. You must replace a class with a similar class. That's pretty clear cut and sensible. Just find a class at a local CC or university and take it that matches the genetics outline of the original F class. Simple as that. If you have the stats for MD, go ahead and do it though!

Ditto!

If you want to aim for an MD and aren't passionate about being a DO then definitely go for an MD. Save the DO slot for someone specifically interested in a DO.

Doubt it mainly because the course description says its for non science majors. I've seen some bio electives for non sci students at certain schools (particularly liberal arts heavy ones) such as Brain and Behavior, human sexuality, and human biology. I've even seen evolution/vertebrate history classes for no sci majors in the bio dept. mind you, I have seen genetics for non science majors too 😛

Regardless of one views that class, it is well agreed that the courses are nowhere similar enough for replacement

OK guys can you please help me
It is dumb for me to not apply to DO
I looked through the course catalog and found the most related course
If its not related, I cant replace this course at this college. Sigh...

Genetics
Principles of classical, molecular, and evolutionary genetics derived from analytical, molecular, and whole genome cytological evidence in animals, plants, and microorganisms. Three hours lecture, one hour discussion.

That does not sound to me like a similar class. To me it sounds like the original class is really a reproductive biology class that incorporates genetics and embryology as part of discussing the topic. It's one of those classes that can't be easily replaced unless it's the same college.

I agree. Although genetics is a main topic of both courses, they both differ, one is biology incorporated and one is your typical genetics course. You honestly may have to take the F...
