I heard from my friends that Organic Chemistry section in DAT only covers first half of organic chemistry.
Is this true??

So I guess.. there is orgo1 and orgo2 required for Dental prerequisite coureses.. so.. only orgo1 is on DAT??
is this right??

they are both on there, but IMO there is a MUCH heavier emphasis on orgo 1 material. i took the DAT with organic 1 + 3 weeks of organic 2 under my belt and I got a 21 on that section. I did study very hard and had a great organic 1 prof though. And those first couple weeks of orgo 2 really helped me review and we did some new reactions that i felt that it was very good to know for the DAT. i think its doable-but you have to be willing to learn some new material on your own.

So, I guess orgo section in DAT covers 90% from orgo1 and 10% or less from orgo2??
is that about right?
So.. I guess I can still take DAT with completing orgo1 from my school and then study a bit of orgo2 my own. would that be enough? well.. of course study orgo1 with DAT books as well.

i wish someone else would reply to give their impression of it...
maybe a little more than 10%...id assume that just to be careful. like i said, im pretty sure that i learned some important reactions the first 3 weeks of orgo 2 that i thought were helpful. i used kaplan and barrons and then also had a friend's books from the kaplan review course. to study i went though and outlined the orgo chapters in the HUGE kaplan review book that they give you in the kaplan course and then memorized and did practice problems. between those i thought that the reviews did a pretty good job of preparing me (plus my previous knowledge of orgo of course). the orgo section is pretty general, i feel like kaplan does very good prep for it (in comparison with QR and PAT..which i do not think the kaplan stuff prepared me for).

but overall-yes, study your orgo 1 stuff like crazy...know some of the big reactions in orgo 2 and i wouldnt worry so much about orgo 2 stuff like carbohydrates, etc.

I hope there isn't much on carbohydrates. My O. Chem teacher was great but he's known for going over material slowly so we never got to any about carbohydrates.
