Hi guys. I know, this is kind of stupid, but just wondering, why am i getting limited/no interview love..

DO student, no failed classes or rotations ( i took a 4 week leave of absence for completing research, but without any issues )

usmle step 1 220+, no failed attempts..I submitted eras on September 10th. I'm still waiting on my letters to come in as my school has been pretty slow with it, but so far i've only gotten an interview from SUNY-Buffalo. any advice? i'm kind of freaking.

How many progs did u apply to? Where did you apply geographically?

A ton, nearly 60 programs. I applied broadly geographically, but all over the midwest, northeast, south..didn't bother with cali or many 'big name' programs . My transcripts/usmle scores/personal statements were received by most programs by the 12th or 13th..and still, just 1 anesthesia interview. so confused. I thought maybe it was because i don't have any LOR's in yet..but i see others getting interviews based on step scores/eras app/personal statement alone .

I think it's still early in the process. If you look back at last year's interview thread, it seemed like people were really starting to get interviews all throughout October. I wouldn't worry yet, especially since you have a good application

Step 1 244 Step 2 pending
Rank Top 20 of class
PS submitted
LORs submitted
ERAS submitted 9/01/11 and complete sans Dean's letter

Received only three interviews, applied to 43 programs across the country. I won't freak out until second week of October, but will admit I'm a bit anxious and slightly concerned.

And you're an american grad? I guess i'll cool my jets for the time being. your stats are way way beyond mine and i submitted 9-10 days after you did. Strangly enough, I just got another invite from a decent program today, bringing the grand total to 2. I'm doing 2 'away' rotations where i know i'll get interviews at so at the very least i can expect 4 interviews, haha..

reading the 2012 invite thread on here just makes me nauseous. :scared:

It's because you're an osteopath.

Do letters go out to U.S. M.D. students first then D.O. students? If so, shouldn't the DO letters be expected a few weeks from now?

I'm a DO, I have interviews. I suspect it's just that as osteopaths our Step 1 needs to be +10-20 above what is expected for MD applicants to be included in first round of invites. This is 100% just my impression/suspicion.

I would assume that this was a sarcastic response. Truthfully it has nothing to do with that. Most likely it is because a letter or two were slow. If there are a couple programs that you are really hoping to hear from, I would recommend calling them in a couple of weeks and asking about the status of your application. That strategy landed me a few interviews over the phone several years ago. Relax, you will match somewhere.

As a former chief, I can say that this is not the case. You are either equal as a DO or you are not, depending on the program. At the programs who frown upon DOs, no step one score or achievements will ever make you equal. At a large number of programs, your 220 is equal to any MD 220. Not the case for FMGs as most programs hold a significant bias against them.

Good to know. 👍

I'm in the same boat with you. My board scores are >240, DO gal, no red flags.... still with minimal love... I haven't really been stressing yet, but my anxiety level is starting to rise, especially when I see so many schools that I applied to who are offering interviews. Submitted the day before you, so hopefully we just missed the 1st pile they reviewed. :luck::luck:

Guys need to relax, I didn't get anything interviews at this point and then starting the beginning of October, I received 28 and had to turn down the majority.

Each program does thinks different, some are just more on the ball than others as far as getting out interview offers.

It's hard but just sit tight.

Assumption incorrect.
