Is taking 4 science classes in the same semester just stupid ?

I am signed up for Organic I, Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology of Reproduction ( a grad/undergrad class). Am I a lamb going to slaughter ? I have never taken 4 science classes in the same semester before. I am not working so I feel like taking three classes is not enough. Three classes would only be 10 credits but 13 credits of science including organic might kick my ass. I would appreciate any input or advice.

i did something pretty similar one semester and did well but I think it kinda sucks b.c there is no liberal aspect to the education; its a bunch of stuff you will memorize and forget it later; i mean its cool if you are passionate about the stuff, i was. But its pretty useless if you take a step back and think about it. If you want to grad early do it, but I would suggest taking something that uses a diff. part of the brain; if you dont exercise that side you will lose creativity associated with it...

Do these classes all have labs? If they all have labs it will be a much much heavier load than if only 1 or 2 have labs.

I took Organic II, Cell Bio, Neurobiology (300 level) and statistics in one semester (technically not four sciences, but four labs). But I also took 5 credits in music to have a more rounded semester. I don't think the difficulty should be an issue (lots of the material will end up overlapping, it's cool) but like the poster above said, having a balanced semester is always nice.

I've taken 14 credits of science before (5 of gen chem, 5 of physics, and 4 of biology). The following semester I took physics 2, biology 2, and organic 1, but that was only 12 credits without the lab.

do you really belief/is it really noticeable that a person becomes boring and dull if they don't take humanities courses besides science ones?

i am interested in liberal arts and the such, but I don't like writing lol

i think you'll be fine. If medicine is what you like thenyou better pray that you can hack 4 sciences in one semester, how many "sciences" will you be doing in med school? ofcourse if you do that all the time, then it may not be as good since you're not well rounded but if science is what you like then by all means go for it.

soph year: physics* and organic chem only
junior year: rest of major's requirements
senior year: rest of major's requirements and electives

its possible. this fall i took ochem I, microbiology, anatomy, and calc II and got 4.0. 3 labs also tough but stay on it. 16 hrs.

this coming spring i have ochem II, genetics, physiology, public speaking, spanish, and a seminar for 19 hours with 3 labs. which is nohting since spanish i already know, and public spking is prolly a joke, and ochem isnt hard to me.

Looks pretty similar to my schedule, but I'm doing more of my electives in my junior year and saving the last of my major requirements for my senior year (I am doing some now though).

I've done something like this before, oddly enough, I was so worried.. so my time management was really good and end up doing better than all my "slacking" quaters.. who knows.. might be a good experience to tell your grandkids

I took 3 last semester. It was quite doable. 4 might hurt a little more, but I'm sure it is possible.

you will be fine as long as you work like every day. I took 4 upper division science courses in the semester and got a 3.85 (damn that A- in neuro!!) anyways, I was stressed more than usual and was studying a lot. Just try and understand what is going on lectures this helps a lot (and stay on top of your reading assignments,etc) good luck.

I think that the number of science courses and how well you do in them has to do with a few factors: your social life, your study habits, and your school to name a few. I took orgo, bio, orgo lab, bio lab, and stats and got straight Bs all year long. I wish that someone had just told me to take orgo alone, and then double up on physics and bio. But then again, I'm the kind of student that has to really study, and who also very much values her social life. Additionally, four classes a semester is a full class load at my school. Your school may require more per semester. The information you learn in these courses you will need to retain (or re-learn) for the MCATs, so really fully absorbing them is important. If I were you, I'd drop one class and take an easy humanities course if you really want four classes. The next year I took physics, intro to neuroscience, another physics class, and then intro to drawing. It was great, and I got the As I needed to make myself a competitive applicant again.

at some point or another you will have to take 4 science classes if you are a science major....and surprise surprise...you will be taking way more than 4 science classes in med school. get used to it.
