Hello everyone!

I m going to dental school this fall and I have a question about NBDE part 1. I apologize if there is any existing answer for my question.

I did some research about the NBDE test and found out many of dental students choose to take it the summer after d1. Personaly, I would love to have this done as early as possible. Is this possible for me if I am going to NYU? What do I need to prepare in advance for the test?

Is there any current dental students are willing to shed some light here? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Different schools take it at different times throughout their degree. Most will take it the summer of the 2nd year and some take it after the first year.
In your case, NYU takes it the summer of your second year... You will not be able to take the NBDE Part I without learning the material, or at least it will be very difficult since schools are on their own set pace, therefore it's difficult to do the NBDE earlier than everyone else.

I went to NYU. why dont you take it when everyone does? its pass/fail. dont stress out about it.

You also need to be aware that the dean/associate dean at your school has to approve your application to take the NBDE I. That means if they don't think you're ready, they won't let you take it. I know at my school several students wanted to take it after 1st year, but were not allowed by the faculty. Usually if you haven't completed all the pertinent coursework they won't let you take it, since it can jeopardize the school's pass rate statistics if they let you take it before you're prepared.
