I'm scheduled to take my Canadian DAT in exactly two months and as I'm studying I'm thinking about the differences between the American version and the Canadian.

The Canadian doesn't have QR or OC but does have Carving. So I'm wondering if Canadian applicants to U.S. schools have an advantage since their DAT was shorter in length and thus easier. Also, the carving score isn't officially looked at by the adcom so that would be another advantage (i.e. you could do average and it wouldn't hurt you).

Depends when you're applying. If it's this cycle and you're using your Canadian DAT scores, then no, you're screwed cuz your scores will get in so late.

I took the American DAT last month and I didn't find it to be difficult. The only thing I can say is that the fact that it was on computer made it more demanding on my eyes. Also, since the Canadian DAT is on paper, the PAT should be easier as should the reading comp.

Besides, carving isn't so easy. I know a lot of people who took it as a joke. They scored 20s on all sections and like 12-16 on carving. And it even if schools don't officially look at it here in the states, it's gotta look bad. Plus, it's an indication for them of where your manual dexterity skills are at.
