You'd think it would be an easy distinction....

My school requires me to volunteer a certain number of hours per semester in order to receive my scholarship, so I volunteer at the students' health center and at the hospital. But in a way I am also receiving money for doing this volunteering, in the form of a scholarship (it is NOT work-study). I also have to list my scholarship on my income taxes (I always end up owing the IRS money). So, can I list this as clinical volunteering?😕

Just thinking ahead as to what to list on my app.

That is probably volunteering. Usually, if you're not getting an hourly wage, it would be considered volunteering. I'm not 100% sure though.

That was my thought exactly, because if we choose not to do volunteer hours we still get a partial scholarship.

Your "compensation" is the difference between the partial and full scholarship, so it isn't really volunteering.

But the compensation is really not compensation... If I don't use some of the scholarship, I don't get any of it back. I never see the money, it's never in my hands. It's really more of a discount 😛
