Is this a legit mdapplicant?

probably fake, but she is a URM and arrogant, so anything is possible

Other people have posted this exact entry before and asked the exact same question. 🙄 I agree that it is probably fake. If it's not, the girl has a brilliant future ahead of her assuming that she can humble herself sufficiently to convince a mere mortal to hire her. Now, back to the AMCAS....

She's 18 and did all that stuff? In TX, they have a policy not to admit med school applicants under 20, according to my UT Houston source.

It's probably real. He/she only earned an O on the writing section. Silly math majors...

    that was her attempt to make someone say it was believable

PLEASE SAY THAT BE A LIE!!!!

Otherwise I wasted money last year on a boondoggle. I though I was given the cold shoulder just because, but if that was the case... FURYY!!!! 😡

this is ridiculous, nobody first authors 2 papers by the age of 18. thats when people graduate from high school. im declaring complete hogwash by some loser out there.

The fact that people are even discussing whether or not this is real is funny.

They do but they are need based, not merit based. nevertheless, even if you are super poor they'll make you take out a unit loan of $25,000 minimum before you are even eligible for their scholarship money.i think this profile is fake, no doubt about it.

I don't know if that mdapplicant is true, but it is very possible to first author 2 papers by the age of 18. I know a girl that first author a paper a paper and went to md/phd at 17. Heard of a 13 yr old kid doing research at the University of Washington. I dont know how many paper he have authored (if any). http://andrewhsu.com/

I made like infinity of those at scout camp.

I think it's possible (not very) for this to be real. As far as her being a URM, her accomplishments (if they are real) are enough to get her into those schools. Being a URM is not a free ride into medical school like some people assume. But, I won't say anything more about that because it's been discussed too many times.
Like someone said earlier, it's funny that people are even discussing this.

My immediate negative reaction was driven by jealousy, I suppose. But on reflection, this is a pretty amazing kid. I hope he can keep it together emotionally. I wonder where he'll be in 24 years when he's my age?

He is... but thinking about how much I would have missed if I was like him, it seems pretty sad. If he can be happy like this, more power to him. But I would not want to miss out on all the experiences had as a child/teenager.

Don't think this is real....

man that andrew hsu kid, i wonder if he knows what a cartoon is or what its like to fal and scrape your knee playing with friends out on the street...his diversions include community service and triathlon...what about trading basketball cards and doing nothing? sometimes i get the feeling these kids are so grown up cuz their parents force them, i read some stuff on his website and apparently his dad would place math books in the bathroom for a while take them away, then ask math puzzles, he then would hunt the books down just to answer them...when he was 4.

I see your point, but I don't think it's really possible for "normal" people like us to get inside his head. As with sports and entertainment prodigies (Michael Jackson, e.g.), there's a real risk of emotional damage.

But then, this kid really seems like he enjoys the intellectual challenge. And it's entirely possible for his family to be supportive of his intelligence and interest in, say, puzzles, while not pushing him too hard. Parenting is tough no matter your kids' ability levels, but I guess the stakes go up when you're raising a supergenius. Anyway, I think he would be fun to meet.

A very select number of people get into each of these schools. I smell BS because this person got into a LOT of those schools. It just doesn't happen. At some point, they have an interviewer who doesn't like them.

Nobody has mentioned Sho Yano. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-08-24-prodigy-school_x.htm
He entered the MD/PhD program at the University of Chicago at the age of 12. I was very interested in him a while back and read all the available stuff, just out of curiosity of what it's like to be such a genius. He got over 40 on his MCAT at age 11. He's completely self driven, it's not pressure from his parents. He seems to be a cool kid, actually. I think you can't expect somebody with that kind of brain to be able to live a normal life, so you just have to let them do what they need and want to do. He's also apparently an excellent pianist, a musical prodigy as well as academic. I think that often goes together. Mostly I feel sorry for his little sister, who is really smart (genius smart probably) but not like her brother. But his parents seem to be handling it really well. What impresses me is that he doesn't do many interviews, unlike a lot of the "child prodigies" who are all about the media and Oprah and stuff, which really says to me that he's in it for himself. There isn't much about him in the media, as a result, but as far as I can tell he's doing really well in medical school. Maybe somebody on here is in school with him.

As far as the mdapplicants profile, I saw that a while ago and I thought it probably wasn't real but might be, but then the info about Harvard having no scholarships convinced me. Also I think there are a few others that are questionable in which the wording sounds very similar to this one, so I wouldn't be surprised if one person was responsible for them.
