I have 3 labs 🙁

Is this crazy?

..
The most labs I have ever taken were two within one semester.

Three might over do it, but I believe you can handle it. I wouldn't know anything about the Zoology class since I never took it.

Three labs and calculus? I couldn't do it, but if you're science minded and excellent at math, it'll be a challenge, but not insurmountable.

This is coming from someone who struggled to get an A in Calculus and I am by no means gifted in the sciences. If you are so gifted, then that schedule will be much more palatable.

Is this your first semester in college of any kind? If so, I would switch the Anatomy (and lab) out for a humanities course, maybe English Composition. If you have previous collegiate experience, this won't be impossible. It will, however, be very difficult.

These won't be my first college courses 🙂 I just meant this is my first semester for the 2009-2010 year!

I think I'll be okay, but I am still apprehensive.

i dunno...

i took medical microbiology with lab, physiology, biochemistry...all together...with some other classes too....but 3 core science classes were a pain in the ass.

Labs are generally 2 hours of ur week outside of clasS!

I had 3 labs in the fall and spring of this past year. It wasn't that bad. Just 3 long classes 3 times a week in the afternoon. I would trade those 3 easy labs for my biochemistry lab next semester.

i would pick either calc or anatomy. anatomy is brute memorization and a five unit calc will dominate the majority of your school work. everything else looks fine.

Great feedback, thanks guys.

Why the hate-on for Calculus? Calculus is easy, guys, it's 90% applied algebra and 5% applied trig, and 5% actual new material.

I had a rather rigorous schedule myself last fall. I had-

Ethics (3)
Biomedical Ethics (3)
Organic Chemistry I w/Lab (4.5)
Physics I w/Lab (4.5)
Calculus III (4)
19 Credit Hours

I ended up getting straight A's that semester. Plus, this semester I had Organic II Lab, Microbiology Lab, and Anatomy Lab, so I can tell you that three labs isn't so bad. You'll have to put a healthy chunk of work in, but that schedule is very doable in my opinion.

IrishHammer, did you ever get to go out on Friday/Saturday nights? Because THAT looks like a tough schedule!

I remember taking Calc I freshman year and it was the easiest 5 credit hour A ever. They basically give you a list of rules and you follow them for every problem. Either you get it or you don't. I personally found Calc II a bit harder because some of the ideas are more conceptual.

I personally do not think you will have many problems. Pharm school will probably be harder than those classes. So make sure you can handle it.

Calculus 1 is a joke. I took Calculus in high school, which actually turned out to be Pre-Calculus, and learned nothing new. It's pretty easy. I plan on taking Calculus 2 if I don't get into pharmacy school and stay to finish my undergraduate degree.

My fall semester:
BIOL 281 - Intro to biotechnology (3)
BIOL 331 - Genetics (3)
CHEM 315 - Biochemistry (3)
CHEM 317 - Biochemistry lab (1)
CHEM 385 - Chemistry literature and documentation (1)
ENGL 203 - Advanced composition (3)
Possibly taking General Statistics, but I'm waitlisted right now.

Biochem was the only bio course I can say that I enjoyed.

My circle of friends is small and I live a good 30-45 minutes away from the city, so if by go out you mean go get "front row wheelchair with a side of hammered" drunk...no. However, I did spend most of my Friday and Saturday nights at the local 24-hour gym, lifting and then elliptical training while watching hockey and/or wrestling. The schedule wasn't that bad, and besides, regardless of how many credits you take, it's all about time management anyway. A guy taking 18 or 19 credit hours can do much better than a guy with 12 or 13 if he manages his time correctly and stays on top of everything.

this is going to be more than a handfull. Biochem and genetics are very time consuming plus chem lit is a lot of busy work. If your biochem lab is anything like mine you're going to be writing 15 pg lab reports for biochem, editing random 15 pg lab reports for chem lit, and spending the rest of your time trying to grasp biochem.

I think your schedule is manageable. Calculus has always been easy for me so I personally think it wouldn't give you such a hard time. However, beware that Anatomy will dominate a big portion of your study. Although it is easy, a lot of memorization is required. G-Chem is very basic so it will be ok too. Good luck with everything. :luck:

I know what you mean. That was exactly like my last schedule but I also took A&P and manage to get straight A+'s.

Welcome to the club! 👍

Well, I just found out that I probably wont be able to take:

BIO 227 Human Anatomy (2)
BIO 228 Human Anatomy Laboratory (2)

Because it only is offered during the time my General Chemistry is.. 🙁 boo!

Mt first semester in college was:
Trig w/ analytical Geometry w/ lab
Zoology I w/ lab
Gen Chem I w/ lab
College Algebra
Honors Eng

18 hrs total and it was a beeacth. I think I ended up with a 2.8 after that. Now mind you that was my first semester of college and I have no doubt I would do a lot better if I had some college experience first. Plus I worked 15-20 hrs/week on a work study program.

Your hardest class there would probably be the human anatomy. The good part is anatomy of humans and your zoology class may build on each other.

Other than that, you might get a little worn out.

My hardest schedule was

Stat 217
Phys 206 (phys 2)
STA Comp Vert Anatomy
Ornithology 406
STA Physics 205
Biochemistry 122

Yep... Teaching and Learning

It looks pretty easy. You should be fine.

My general chemistry lab was 3 hours once a week. Your schedule doesn't look bad. You're done early every day except Monday. You'll be eating lunch a little earlier then, but you should be fine. Can you take any night classes that are a prerequisite, but not science related?

🙄

Easy is definitely in the eyes of the beholder - Work hard / Party hard - and you should be fine.

I tried to make this point several times.

There are a lot of variances in academic talent and aptitude. There are those people who sit in Algebra, Trig, Geo and Calculus zoning out and still get 100s on exams.

Regardless, that schedule looks easy in terms of "time"... Monday looks rough, but there'll be time to relax on Tues and Thurs. Looks good!

i think i just had my hardest semester

biochem II
Anatomy II +lab
Microbiology +lab
psychology

Lookin' good! Can you throw a humanities course onto that T/R either in the morning or afternoon? (IF you need any, that is)

I'm taking general pre-reqs this summer (at my local CC) so I can focus on the science courses at my state college.

🙂 thanks for the advice!

I took 3 labs with classes yielding 17 hrs twice in undergrad and 19 hrs once....it sucked but i never took less than 15 hrs
