NYU,
I sent my primary out to them last week and received this email back from them. I do not have any MCAT scores since my first MCAT was the previous August one. Thanks.
"We received your application to NYU School of Medicine from AMCAS. At
this time, we are not requesting you submit a secondary application.
If this situation should change in the future, you will be notified."

even more evidence that NYU screens on GPA only, particularly the science GPA.

No, I got the same e-mail and I called NYU. They said they are awaiting my MCAT score from August, and the reason they send out that e-mail is to let you know that you will be considered/reviewed once they receive your MCAT score. They just don't want to keep you in suspense. They also say that it couldn't hurt to send in an extra letter, as competition gets tougher late in the game (ie. they have already given out many interview invites, so getting one after Oct 11th will be harder). You can bank on your MCAT score being high, or just a nice letter to update them on any progress you've had recently, etc. Good luck! 🙂

Heh, I thought it was a rejection. Received that email on August 3, and I haven't heard anything since from them. Well I guess it's still early...

Yeah, the lady told me I'd know if it was a rejection - ie. it'll be clear cut whether or not you're rejected. 🙂 Keep a smile on and wait it out.

I received an invite today, I've taken the mcat's once (awaiting august scores), from what I got I think if they dont get enough applicants than they let people off that hold list to apply, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for your help.

I also don't have my MCAT score from August but I received an invitation for a secondary application. My science GPA is about 3.65 (including an absymmal 2.6 from undergrad and 3.86 from post-bac). I sent in the application and am just waiting for the lovely MCAT score to see where I stand.

Yeah, seems pretty stupid to screen for just science GPA. What if you got like a 3.3 GPA but then a 42 MCAT? Not to mention that it a school schould really screen based on entire application, not just grades....

I too am waiting on my MCAT score, but I haven't gotten any word from NYU. No email or secondary. My AMCAS was processed about a week and a half ago, and my science GPA should meet their cut-off (3.73). I went there for undergrad too. Maybe they like that, maybe they don't.

Give it more time. I was processed 8/24 and received the secondary 9/9, so you should be getting it within a week or so.

Hmm...
