Is this a very competitive year?

I was curious to hear from others whether they think this year is much more competitive than the past few years. I know at my program we received a lot more applications this year and board scores etc. were higher. I also know some of the students from the medical school here didn't get as many or as good interviews as people with similar records have gotten in the past. Appreciate anybody's thoughts on this or if anyone has any stats on how many applicants there are this year. Thanks.

I feel this year is pretty competitive. Most of the schools I interviewed said they had record number of applications. I am a little nervous about the match...is 7 programs too little to list?

You should rank at least 10-11 programs just to be on the safe side. I have seen very strong applicants get the wrong advice and rank a few only to be scrambling in March. This is a very competitive year with programs getting at least 50 more applications than they did last year, and the applications were very strong. We did not interview applicants we would have a few years ago. It was a very difficult choice for us this year.
