Is this an Institutional Action and if so how does it look?

So, I live in University housing and had to pay a $200 fine because my wife brought home a cat....Is that an IA because there was a fine associated with breaking university housing rules on pets? If so, how will this be viewed?
 
It is not on my transcript so IDK. Was just an email some two years ago with the university housing office

Are you kidding, I'll accept you for being a cat person alone!

Seriously, it is an IA, just report it, own it and you'll be OK.

Would something like “We were in the process of being approved for my wife’s emotional support animal when she brought it home early. Two days after paying the fine we were approved for the animal. I recognize the importance of following proper procedures and blah blah so on.”

The stupid thing is we still have the cat as we are approved for it now...my wife just brought it home too early...

I am not sure I will be able to pull a 521 MCAT again in 5 years. You ever had a cat lick your nose every night for 2 years? The amount of sleep you lose due to needy cats is sufficient to negatively affect performance lol

Simple as that, less is more? As an ADCOM, would you just read that and brush it off like "Seriously?"

Check with your registrar if this is on your record. Also, try the Dean's office.

I suspect that other people commenting in the forum were being sarcastic. Humor doesn't travel well over the electrons. Over int he Psychology forum is an interesting thread on what people think of ESAs BTW.

Emotional support animals

The Pomeranian is the legit ESA due to my spouse's diagnosis. I don't know how she spun it to get the cat too. But if we end up moving somewhere with university housing, the dog will be coming and the cat will not.
 
I wouldn’t go into esa. People have mixed feelings on them as many people use them as a loophole to have their pet in stores etc.

Just own it, don’t give a reason that can be construed as bs. And don’t pawn it off on your wife. You own it.

Exactly this. It is very easy to get papers for an ESA without a valid reason. Money talks.

Im not an adcom but i would brush it off. I am also a cat person and want to break my lease daily to bring a third cat into my life soo

Probably needs an emotional support animal cause she has to deal with you.

You are correct, however. What is funny is I am posting almost every other day on here to make sure everything is perfect, but come June 1st...Imma ghost until I am hopefully posting some “XXX school vs XXX school” threads (as well as the school specific forums).
 
I finally sucked it up and input this today. How does this sound:

"During my first month in university housing (July of 2017) I received a fine for having a cat without prior approval. I paid the fine and received further approval to keep the cat."

Personally I would soften this and not be so stiff/formal. Drop the July 2017. I would also say adopting a stray or however you got it. and also mention cat’s name. I also fine this whole thing so silly that I would add some quip at end but do not know what.

I agree it is silly. I guess the prompt just asks for the date and what happened. You don’t think a quip about it would be not “owning” what I did, despite it being silly?

“In my first summer at university housing I adopted my cat Spunky. Because I did not have prior approval I ended of with a fine. I paid the fine and then got further approval to keep Spunky. In the end, my free cat ended up costing me $200.”

Is this better

You don’t think that this sort of thing could distract from schools where university housing would be where I am living? Or do ADCOMs not give a flying rats ass about what you do in university housing?

Also, the entire application at this point is fairly formal (Save for calling myself climber of mountains and referencing a goldfish-poop powered banana tree). This may help liven it up a bit.

Then I guess go all out. “I paid the fine, and got further approval to keep the fat little....”

You are right though, it is frivolous. I should still report it and it likely won’t make any change on my otherwise good application...Now how to be humorous while still owning up to the fact that I probably should have just waited the 3 days for approval.

I don’t know, I used my SAT essays as a means of Rick rolling the graders but I still got like a 1900 on that.

Yeah, I definitely get this perspective. I think this is more in line with where I’m at. I’ll keep the formal type stuff.

I had signed up for the SAT and in between signing up and taking it I enlisted in the military. Needless to say, didn't even know what you be on it and so I took the whole thing as a joke because I knew I wasn't going to be going to college for a while.

So back when I took the SAT, the written section was graded separately and didn't go into your overall score. So it was just out of 800 per section for a total of 1600 max score. Then the essay was a separate thing. I didn't feel like writing the essay, so I drew an elaborate cartoon. I don't really remember the details since it was 18 years ago, but it wasn't anything dirty or anything. Just a really elaborate picture of singing sunflowers and ****.

Hey seems like a pointless essay section then? What even was at for… Standardized exams that are not consistent I are weird.
