Hey seems like a pointless essay section then? What even was at for… Standardized exams that are not consistent I are weird.

It was pointless 18 years ago. No idea now. Although I think it's optional now, so probably pretty pointless now too.

As of this coming cycle the essay will be optional and there will be an additional fourth score based on diversity and adversity that the student has overcome. It seems like it will be some form of multiplier to the SAT score to help colleges analyze the SAT score in the context of the students overall Life privileges or disadvantages. And apparently, the student won’t know their diversity score it would just be assigned to them.

Literally just heard about this on NPR four minutes ago. I know nothing else of it.

It was optional when I took it for the second time in 2016 for my enlisted to medical degree program. Also, wtf? They're adding a diversity score that affects your score based on how much adversity they feel you've faced? Is that for real?

It has. Cat was a minor misstep; won't hurt much if at all.

Also, do you think the wording that involved “Spunky” was sufficient fair balance? Or the original more formal?

I think naming him is good. Makes the whole thing seem wholesome and paints the school as the idiots without you seeming like you’re blaming them.

I like this adversity score thing for college admissions. It identifies people of any race who have had grit and creativity and determination to rise above a less than advantageous environment.

it will be based on objective measures based on student's address (what is the average family income in the immediate area? what is the crime rate in the immediate area? etc) and HS school's situation (overcrowded? high proportion of low income students? etc)

It will be a separate score with 50 being average. A kid who scores 1400 with a adversity score of 85 might be considered as good or even stronger than an applicant who scores 1440 with an adversity score of 20. It could be used to justify admitting some applicants without specifically taking race into account (given that it has been a problem in some jurisdictions).

Of course you like this numerical system... you’re the evil queen of numbers.

I like the general idea of adversity scores, but it is opaque, and transparency is usually a good thing. Also, it doesn't capture certain kinds of adversity - such as losing a leg to cancer at 14, or being an Iraqi refugee that came to America at 12 with no English.

Lol wait this seriously counts as an IA?

Don't tell my old university that I used to light stuff on fire on my porch :dead:
Yup. Because I got caught. Damn thing wouldn’t shut up in the bathroom while maintenance was changing out the air filter. We were in the approval process already, but still.

Watch him get an interviewer that’s allergic to cats lmao

So, I live in University housing and had to pay a $200 fine because my wife brought home a cat....Is that an IA because there was a fine associated with breaking university housing rules on pets? If so, how will this be viewed?

Seriously...?
I read your posts which a lot of the time are helpful.
I don’t know if your “status” on SDN grants you some immunity from stupid posts...
But honestly this one is ridiculous.

It is ridiculous that I wanted to know if something counted as an institutional action? Silly, yes. Neurotic? Possibly. Stupid? I mean, if there is a chance that I don’t report something that my university does and that discrepancy causes issues with matriculation, then you tell me. I found out I should report this and didn’t even think anything of it until I got to that part of the application.

Also don’t think I have ever brought up status on SDN...I am just a guy trying to best help my application and to help others with their’s to the best of my abilities.

Having a cat in your apartment without permission? Is that an IA?
I’ll wager that has NEVER been asked before.
Oh no ! Will that prevent me from becoming a doctor?!?
C’mon man.
You need to get a life and stop looking at SDN every waking moment

If the school takes an action against an applicant for breaking a school rule, that's an IA. I've seen "carton of milk on the fire escape" IA just to mention one that sounded pretty silly. If there was a school housing rule against cats and the OP got written up for having a cat, then the OP has an IA.

If this was not university housing it would not be an IA but if it has to do with school rules, it is an IA.

It isn’t the cat. It is breaking university housing rules. And yes, apparently it is an IA. If you would read the damn thread you would see that I was in the right for asking as I learned I need to report it.

Also, I appreciate your unfounded insults. Hell, if I can go through a dozen PS drafts while maintaining a 4.0, getting a 521 MCAT, working 20 hours a week, having a wife and child, teaching my child to read and do math, go camping almost every weekend, maintain physical fitness, review 6 other people’s PS a week, participate in 10+ hours a week of research, and tutor 5 hours a week then I am pretty sure checking SDN during commercial breaks, on walks and on the toilet is the least of my concerns with ‘having a life’.

Okay. Whatever. I’m done. If you all think this is a valid thing to bring up and waste tome on then so be it. This is one of the reasons SDN gets a bad rap is because of posts like this and responses like LizzyM’s.
Not every little thing needs to be reported. There was never even a formal IA in this matter as far as I can tell from this ridiculous thread.

Congratulations to you Meme Lord
You are truly what each and all of us should afpire to be! God bless you!

No congratulations needed. Imma do me and you do you. We all operate on different levels. Just letting you know I find it insulting that you are insinuating falsities.

I am sorry if you think that a person who spends time on on an online community is the kind of person who needs a life. Not my job to regulate what you think, so I can’t say you are wrong but you do you.

I appreciate the blessings of whatever deity is doing the blessing!

Yah, I am all good. Just very much dislike unwarranted insults and people unjustly telling others how to live their lives.

I just find it absurd that the reason someone complains about SDN is one of the few silly posts in the sea of pessimism. And then to suggest that the very help that students (who have silly questions) receive is the reason why SDN has a bad rap when it is in fact that very toxicity that gives off that negative view.

Not to mention, dude is literally posting on this forum to tell you to stop posting on this forum.

This post has run its course lol unless y’all want a weekly car picture?
