Originally, I was supposed to be just shadowing an OB/GYN practitioner, but I think it turned into more of a clinical experience but I'm not too sure. After about a month she started letting me assist in IUD insertions/removals, pap smears, vaginal swabs, and even biopsies. I ended up being there for a year and half and doing about 300 hours. I'm just not really sure what to list these hours as because I never really had a title like volunteer medical assistant or anything of the sort.

Also, if this is clinical experience do I need to worry about getting more traditional shadowing hours?
I did shadow in general surgery for about 35 hours and observed one autopsy for about 4 hours (I'm not even sure that's worth listing) but nothing other than that.

Call it shadowing... it seems odd to volunteer to help a professional who is working in a for profit business and earning a 6 figure salary. It's too bad you didn't ask for a job.

Lol I probably should have. It was really strange at first but its been one of my most influential experiences. She's the only OB/GYN I've ever met that actually made the patients almost excited to get a pap smear. Ultimately, it's what made me decide I wanted to do OB/GYN.
