So I just finished my Freshman year at college, and over the summer I decided to start shadowing doctors early. I got 100 hours
Would that be enough?

100 is solid and you did a lot of specialties. Perhaps spend more time in your favorite one of those to show some commitment, but 100 seems to be a golden number here.

So I ended up getting a 100 hours in total, but I just wanted to know whether it was enough.
I shadowed nephrology, dermatology, colon and rectal surgery, ophthalmology, family medicine, podiatry, Orthopedic Surgery
A year down the road I was also hoping to shadow a cardiologist and an anesthesiologist for maybe 10-15 hours each. Would that be enough?

And when I say enough I mean would that be above the average for people who apply to medical school?
You don't need to keep shadowing that many doctors for that much time for the rest of your college experience. It might be a good idea to have some shadowing close to when you actually apply, but if you are looking for hours, you are fine as far as that goes.

You've done more than enough shadowing, don't need to worry about doing any more. Try to get some active clinical experience now (hospital, hospice, nursing home etc. volunteering).

Also since you are a freshman, I would write down in a word doc some of the memorable experiences you had with shadowing this summer, and the important lessons you learned. It will help come application time to review these notes and have some material for your essays.

Commitment... to shadowing?

I mean I said he is solid, he does not need to worry. But if he decides to do more, I am saying his best course of action would be to stick to one specialty he is interested in. ADCOMs like commitment, so even though shadowing is just a check-box item, I would assume it looks better.

100 hours is pretty good for your Freshman year!
