Hi guys,

A few secondaries ask for an explanation of why I don't have a committee letter. I was just wondering if this explanation for my lack of a committee letter sounds good. I want to accept the mistakes that I have made but I don't want to sound like too much of a screw up as well. Everything in the explanation is completely truthful.

IMPORTANT: Please do not quote this post, I will delete it as soon as I get enough of an opinion. I know I can not do anything if you do decide to quote, but please don't out of common courtesy.

Thank you thank you thank you

I wonder what one of the adcoms on here would say, but it seems like not having a letter for those reasons would likely hurt you for various reasons (e.g. poor planning on your part). But your explanation seems honest enough, and so should be sufficient. It doesn't seem like any answer you provide will help your cause, really. (obviously, take with a grain of salt)

I think he knows his app is damaged on this count, no matter what. He wanted to know if his explanation was optimal damage control, and I would say yes, it is, OP. It felt like you directly took full responsibility for this, which is the best you can do. I don't think schools will dismiss you based on this alone, which gives you a chance to impress with the rest of your app.

Yeah, I'd love it if LizzyM, Catalystik, or NickNaylor would provide their opinion on this matter. 🙂

I understand that lacking the letter will hurt me either way but I'm just trying to make sure that it sounds professional and doesn't leave too bad of a taste in their mouths.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help so far.

If you're going to mention two requirements (physician LOR or 50 hours) you should mention why you don't/didn't have either requirement.

My committee had several requirements (3.5+ GPA, LORs by such and such date, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of). I didn't meet the 3.5+ GPA requirement and that's all that I mentioned in my secondaries.

It looks as if you've edited your post such that I don't know what reason you are giving for not having a committee letter so I don't know if you are making the best of it by phrasing it the way you are.

Ditto. You edited your original post prematurely.
