So I'm treasurer of a premed organization and I had to order T-shirts for the executive board. I went on Champion -and the total was $41. However, they had a promotion where if you spend $50+, you get $10 off, so I decided to order a $9.99 pair of gym shorts for myself, cause the total would have been the same either way. Should I let the president of the organization know? I mean, we only needed $41 in exec board shirts and most other people would not have found the promotional code.

Nice work, you're basically premed Bernie Madoff.

Why not tell them? It's literally inconsequential and it cost the organization nothing. Maybe offer to pay them $7.50 so that it was a shared discount and that you all saved money.

I was in a similar pickle with another store doing errands for a Red Cross chapter abroad in the summer, and just "bought" a $10 gift card and gave it to my supervisor for future use. I realize this isn't very helpful to you now, but so long as people aren't going to your receipts I don't anticipate you getting in trouble. Nonetheless and to assuage the risk, you should mention what you did and offer to pay it back if it was a bad move. There's nothing wrong with saying "I accidentally crossed this line and I intend to remedy that error," and treating the situation that way may even be seen as a sign of honesty.

I'm with gonnif on this one.

Fair enough, but I am having a hard time believing this guy, with the handle rich anesthesiologist as a premed, and his post history, is actually real lol. A future doctor? Oh dear

I suggest not telling this story in response to a Secondary prompt of, "Tell about an ethical dilemma you faced and how you approached it."

Unless you clean the slate by refunding the $9.99 to the organization's coffers.
