Is it overkill to work in 2 research labs under professors simultaneously? One of the research projects would be weekly, probably around 10 hours but the second project, if accepted, is 12 hours over 2 consecutive days every TWO weeks. Is this definitely manageable?

If it helps, the second project has good potential for a publication. The first research position is under a professor and I'm not too sure where it will lead yet.

It sounds doable. If it was me, I would prolly pick the one with the opportunity to publish and spend the rest of my free time doing something else besides research, but thats just me. Its a good problem to have though, having to choose between two research opportunities. Good luck.

Thanks, just for the sake of this thread, I found out i was selected for the position!!!! the interview went really well and it's actually a paid position too ($10 an hour) and I was told it has promise for publication and that I would be named as an author if it does. I just cant believe as a freshman i may have beat out sophomores and juniors.

This one starts this semester and continues over spring so I'm definitely going to do both research jobs.

Unless you plan on going MD/PhD route, this seems overkill. Are you sacrificing other ECs for this such as volunteering or worse your grades?

Make sure your grades stay high, because the schools which most appreciate research on your application also tend to be the schools that have higher entering GPA/MCAT averages
