Here is what my schedule looks like for winter quarter :

Physics 3B (4units)
Cell Biology (4 units)
Physiology Lab (3 units)
Seminar (1 unit)

Is it possible to score pretty well on the DAT (19+AA) while taking these 3 sciences. I plan on taking a Kaplan course and taking the DATs around April/May? If possible, could any of you list your schedule while studying for the DATs and if you were successful on the DATs, was it doable and around how much time did you dedicate per week for the DAT. Muchly appreciated.

Tony

Yep. It's totally doable if you manage your time as much as possible. You have to know your limits on how much time to allot for each class and the DAT in general.

My schedule last spring was Physics II (4 cred), Genetics (3 cred), Introductory Guitar (1 cred), Independent Research (2 cred - 10 hours /week), and Intro to Criminal Justice.

I studied my butt off for all the classes and the DAT. Managed a 21/21/18 on the DAT and a 3.85 GPA. So it CAN be done. You just need to know how to manage your time. Like I studied for the DAT ALL semester as opposed to a couple of months towards the end. That just worked for me better.

Good luck though!

Sorry...forgot to tell you how long I spent studying for the DAT. I studied about an hour a day for 2 months during the week and 3 hours a day on weekend. Then I upped it to 2 hours a day during the week and about 5 hours a day on each weekend day for the month before the test. There were also days here and there where I didn't do anything too.

Thats gonna be a doooozy. I said its doable if all you are doing is studing. But other factors are involved that you are going to need to get accepted to dent school. But ive seen it done before. Good luck

You'll do fine you just need to make sure you set aside an hour or two a day to dedicate to studying for the DAT. I worked 25-30 hrs a week while taking anatomy (4hrs) microbiology (3hrs) Ochem and lab (5hrs) with a writing class I got good grades and got 19's on the DAT. You just need to be dedicated and organize your time. And be disciplined everyday. Many of my friends had similar schedules and did the same, it all depends how much you want it.

Teef are really cool aren't they

What is winter quarter? Are you a junior?

For the bio section, you probably don't need to spend too much time on it since your classes in this semester have already covered, except ecology.
For the ochem section, there are only limited number of reactions that you need to know and you can finish it in no time.
For the chem section, you might need to spend a little more time on it
For the reading and math sections, just need to do some practice tests.
For the PAT, take a lot of practice tests.

Thanks for all your replies so far. Yea, I'm a junior from a UC and we're on the quarter system. I've finished all the prerequisites except for physics. After reading the replies, it sounds like my schedule is doable. I plan on studying for the DATs for 3-4 months. So you think that cell biology and physiology lab overlap nicely with the Bio section of the DAT? If so, that would be great 😀 Anyways, thanks for the helpful replies so far.

Yea it definitely doable, but if there's one thing I could suggest, it would be to drop physics and replace it with something a little more relevant to the DAT..(or a blowoff class of course)

I took Animal Physiology, Physical Chemistry, Embryology, and Statistics the semester I was studying for the DAT. It worked out really well since studying for all those sciences was essentially the same as studying for the DAT and vice versa. Also, DO NOT underestimate the PAT like I did. The Kaplan PAT's are a joke. I'd suggest finding another resource to prepare for the PAT.

You're only taking 12 science credits? That's not much at all. Dental school will be much tougher. One test in dental school is probably harder than the DAT so I would think hard if balancing what you have now and studying for the DAT is an issue for you.
