Please bear with me on this rant, I am new to this forum and this is my first post!

I am a rising sophomore at an ivy-league school and had my schedule all laid out for the upcoming semester. Originally, I was planning on taking Calculus 3, Organic Chem (no lab), Intro to Bio+lab, and Criminology.

However, the math professor I was intending on registering for is no longer teaching the class and the replacement is awful according to people who completed the course.

My new schedule I made is Physics+lab, Intro to Bio+lab, Organic Chem, and a half credit language course that is very easy.

My question is whether or not I am crazy by taking so many pre-med requirements at once? I did calc 1+2 and gen chem+lab last year and my overall GPA is 3.86. Should I remove one of these classes or would I be able to survive this semester without losing my mind?

Many thanks in advance for your time! 🙂

why in the world would you take organic chemistry without lab with current intentions of applying to medical school. talk about a waste.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but are the credits
Physics (3) + Lab (1) = 4
Biology (3) + Lab (1) = 4
Organic Chem = 3
Language = .5

Is that only 11.5 credits? I'd say you should keep criminology then, if you can - make it 14. Otherwise, this might not be too bad, especially if you took AP physics or bio in high school. (if you're at an ivy league, I'm gonna assume you did both :laugh:)

You'll be fine. I had many semesters like that, or worse. It's all in your head. If you think you can do it, then you can. 🙂

RE: Frky, At my school, the format or Organic Chem is 2 seperate lectures and a full credit of lab that is taken in after Organic Chem 1. Organic Chem is 3 credits in total: 2 credits of lecture and 1 credit of lab where the lab is completed in a single semester.

I have never taken bio, but I completed AP physics in my junior year and then took first year university physics in my senior year so hopefully that will ease the pain!

In terms of credits:
Physics+lab=1.5
Bio+lab=1.5
Organic=1
Language=.4
Total=4.5

How would that convert into the double digits?

Thanks again for all the amazing and quick feedback?

Eh...I have no clue I've never seen schedules like that.

At my school the credits would be

Organic w/ lab combined = 5 credits
Physics w/ lab combined = 5 credits
Bio w/ lab combined = 4 or 5 credits depending, but usually 4.
Language= 3 to 5 credits

So you're looking at 17 to 20 credits... only 4 classes...very doable to maintain a good GPA. Esp. since you took AP.

My schools does classes as units, the usual max being 4.5, and 1 unit=4 credits so if yours is like mine you're at 18 credits

How do you take a .5 credit class?

Standard fare is 3 credits for lecture, one for lab. I hate schools with the "5 credit gimmick", Its just like those lame high schools that weighted GPA's to above 4.0...unfair.

Damn, I sounded angry. Mybad lol.

Haha, at my school, if you take physics with calculus 😍, it's three credits. but if you take the fake physics :laugh: (without calculus) it's four. wtf? :meanie:

the only five-credit classes i know are the beginning and intermediate languages (but not the advanced).

We have 3 credit organic lecture and 2 credit lab. Why wouldn't a 7 hour a week lab be worth 2 credits exactly?

You will be fine. I'm taking Organic Chem. 2 without a lab this upcoming semester as well. Not a big deal. My whole schedule is Calc 3, Physics for Scientists and Engineers 2, Ochem 2, gen ed, + two 1 credit classes (16 CRH total). No lab for physics 2 or ochem 2. Work hard, stay focused, you'll be fine.
