Im new to these boards...they are a beautiful discovery, thanks for all that have shared their experiences.

But like I've said before, I'm on my way to start the journey to Med school. Im planning on doing post-bacc at West Chester Univeristy. I have great interest in PCOM.

But is this school right for me? I don't even know what kind of criteria I should be looking for. As of now...any school that will accept me (come application time) is good for me...but I would like my decision on my future to mean more than this.

If you could share with me why you think the med. schools you have applied to were worth your time, energy, money and stress that would be awesome.

I was at PCOM yesterday. It was great... nice classrooms (wireless internet, multiple note displays, big so you can walk in late :meanie:), nice anatomy lab (has windows; mild formaldehyde smell), great students (everyone was pretty awesome to me, especially DO Sigma Nu Guy, who showed me around), and a small but nice campus. I suggest calling the office to tour Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday, seeing as I think those are the "established" tour days.

I don't have an acceptance in-hand, but I have gotten an interview. I am told that extracurriculars are extremely important for PCOM. In particular, PCOM takes great pride in its DO-specific heritage and you should defintely have a LOR from a DO so get to shadowing!! Oh and for your LORs, make sure you've prepared a nice CV... it takes several drafts.

Best of luck! Hopefully by next year I am a PCOM student and will be able to assist you further 🙂 But, I have to refrain from counting my eggs before they hatch 😉 Are you applying both MD and DO or just DO?

Good luck on your interview!!!! :luck: I am sure you will be fine.

To the OP: I have only heard wonderful things about PCOM. It is one of the top schools. I applied but then withdrew because I actually prefer to be in a rural area.🙄 If you are interested in osteopathic medicine, then I would definitely consider PCOM. I think most people feel that they will go anywhere. I felt the same way too. I just needed one acceptance and then I could become a doctor. There is nothing wrong with that. As that old joke goes, "What do you call the student that graduates last in their medical school class?" The answer: "A doctor". Point being, you will be a doctor anywhere you go. A lot of education is what you put into it and not where you go. I would definitely add PCOM to your list though. Good luck with everything!:luck:

LOL! Yea, I agree. That wasn't the point though.😛

also, we cant tell u what is a good fit ... u have to find that out yourself. i dunno which of my schools will be a good fit for me yet either, i will find out when i go and interview.

Thanks for your help.

Yet I would be really interested in why many of have chosen to apply to the schools that you've applied to, and the schools that you are attending.

Im not really looking for you all to tell me which school is best for me, but to help me identify which criteria I should be using to make my decision.

thanks! :c) and good luck to all waiting on acceptances.

All of my schools are listed in my mdapplicants link. I applied to schools only because of their location. I looked for schools on the east coast and in close proximity to certain areas. Because I have a family, I wanted to be in an inexpensive, rural area. Once I recieved my DCOM acceptance, I withdrew from most of the schools I had applied to. DCOM just fit my needs the best. I am probably not a good example because I think most people tend to look more at match lists, board scores, opportunities to specialize, etc and many people prefer a more urban area. As Dr. Inviz stated, no one can tell you what a good fit will be. Everyone has their own needs. Good luck with your decision!
