I am in kinda a holding pattern at MCV and decided to update my file and express my interest. Can yall tell me if im on the right track; im not really sure what I am doing. Thanks

Members of the Admission Committee,

My admission file at the Medical College of Virginia has been complete since August and I would like to take this opportunity to update my activities from the summer and inform you of my plans in the future. I would also like to express my interest in the Medical College of Virginia.

Throughout the summer I have continued to work part-time at Gwinnett Medical Center as an Anesthesia Technician. Concurrently, I also took Organic Lab II in which I received an A, boosting my overall GPA to 3.80. I also had the wonderful opportunity to travel abroad to incredible places such as Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Bahamas. Totaling almost a month, I was able to pursue long time hobbies of mine including SCUBA diving and hiking.

Since the start of the fall semester, I have been taking a full semester of classes including Medical Neuroanatomy, Animal Biology, International Politics, and Biological Seminar. I have started an undergraduate thesis involving Natural Autoantibodies, which I hope to have completed by April 2005. However, my current research is conducted jointly with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. We are in the process of opening a small company at Georgia State University to develop a product needed by the CDC and hospitals throughout the country. Often time the CDC will receive HIV infected samples that have been mislabeled or whose labels are illegible. Thus the company will use Natural Autoantibody binding specificity to determine if HIV sample are from the same donor. As part of the research, I have the opportunity to study abroad in Venice, Italy and conduct research related to environmental immunology next summer.

I feel that my interest in the Medical College of Virginia stem from a set of common goal held by both MCV and myself. I feel that medicine should be a balance between research, teaching, and health care. Having considerable exposure to all three aspects of medicine, I feel that I would fit in well at MCV. I am also interested in the early clinical exposure that the Foundations of Clinical Medicine provides student and feel that it is excellent in preparing students for the clinical aspect of medicine.

I am excited at the opportunity to meet you in person and get a first hand look at the education at the Medical College of Virginia. Thank you for your time and consideration.

One thing - it's called the VCU School of Medicine now, I believe. Other than that, the letter is great.

hey..there are some minor grammar errors...you might want to double check before you send the letter

the letter is great....but what kind of hold are you on?? if its post-interview, a letter would be useless since the files are pretty much closed at that time even to the dean--since the committee has give you an score already and they will not meet again to review your file. Not to mention that this kind of hold is completely normal! all post-interview applicants with 1.0-3.4 are placed on such hold. 3.5-5 are rejected.

but if its pre-interview..i will help alot, since there's only one person per applicant that decides if you should get an interview and any updates to your file will send your file to that person again.

anyways..good luck!

Here is my modest attempt to correct teh grammars....there are some very long sentences so you might want to rephrase some of them. let me know if you need more help

pre-interview=ratings that the person that reviews your file gives your files, 1 being the best...scores are used to create priority list to interview applicants.

post-interview=the commitee has rated you...3.5 to 5 are rejected, and 3.4 or less are put on hold to be accepted or waitlisted or even rejected by mid march

I agree with someone else that it is a little wordy -- is scuba diving relevant? -- but otherwise I think it sounds good.

It's not Center for Disease Control. It's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. May want to get that right.
