Hey, this question just raised up in my mind. Is Western U relatively easy to get in (get accepted) once anyone make it to the interview? I was looking at the acceptance profile section on Western U's website, that 521 out of 2033 total applicants were invited to the interview for the class of 2008. 521/2033 makes it about 26% (which is pretty competitive to get an interview invitation). According to the U.S. News and World Report, the acceptance rate for COMP is about 21%. So, does that mean about 80% (21% divided by 26%) of the total interviewee get accepted?

Our class started out at about 200 students. If they interviewed over 500, that means they interview 2-3 students per slot available which is a higher than 20% but well under 80% (i dont feel like actually doing the math right now). But, if you consider that over 2000 applied and only 200 got in, that's about 10% (yes, i realize that IS 10%, but it wasn't 2000 and 200 on the dot). I would say the term "acceptance rate" is being used loosely. Do they say how they figured that 21% number, because it's not 21% of those applying, nor is it 21% of those interviewing? Also, they could be using old data. My class is about 30 students larger than those of the past few years due to the addition the Northwest Track (of which i know nothing about, so don't ask me).

Crunch the numbers this way, 2000 applicants, 500 interviews. acceptance rate is 21%. .21X2000=400 or so. They interview 500, accept 400 of those, 200 decline acceptance for another school, 200 matriculate. I know 3 people who have interviewed there and all were accepted. I took the mcat in april, applied in may, interviewed in june and am expecting a decision this week for entrance in august.

😕

What the heck??? Is there something wrong? 😕 The AACOMAS deadline is January 15th! How can anyone submit their application in May and still get considered? Even if it's extended, it's impossible to extend it for 4 months!Anyone who took the MCAT this year's April belongs in the c/o 2010 cycle. 🙄

I found these stats on usnews:

format: total, interviewed, accepted, enrolled

College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (Western University)
Total: 2,033 534 423 200
In-state: 662 293 236 126
Out-of-state: 1,371 241 187 74
Women: 1,028 292 247 102
Minorities: 798 219 177 92
International: 100 39 9 6
accept: 20.8% interview: 26.3%

It does seem that you have an approx. 80% chance of acceptance if you are interviewed at COMP.

Which year data are these? Why are they accepting 80% of the total interviewee? What if most of the accepted students decide to matriculate, then the class size would definitely run out of space. Based on the data, it seems like it's competitive to get to the interview, but once you're invited, the chance of being accepted is pretty high.

Yeah, I was kind of taken aback by these data. Perhaps they had a large wait list, and many of those originally accepted eventually withdrew their applications, leaving room for those on the wait list, increasing the total number accepted.

I got this information from what is currently available on usnews, "Fall 2004 Admissions Statistics."

Can I find this info online? If so, can you give me the address to the website? I'm curious.
