i think the answer choice is wrong...

question is 45 kg, 80 yr old female undergoing pin fixation f right hip in the lateral decubitus position under spinal anesthesia. post op day 1, cant move her left foot or ankle actively. cause is?

a) compression of sciatic nerve
b) compression of common peroneal nerve
c) injury L4-5 nerve root
d) stretching of femoral nerve
e) stretching of tibial nerve

I picked b, but the answer is a.

foot drop, common peroneal...no?

please correct/help...

Question states she can't actively move her whole foot or ankle

common peroneal does give you a foot drop, but there is still move motor innervation to the foot. tibial nerve plantar flexes and inverts the foot.

Since the pt can't move her whole foot or ankle, her problem involves both the peroneal and tibial nerves.

Sciatic splits into these two nerves near the pop fossa, and are blocked when performing a sciatic block there.
