Just got ours today. Pleased with the results. Our program won't let seniors graduate unless they "pass" (greater than 15% tile) and holds them back six months so of course I'm relieved! Hope everyone did well!
 
I totally agree. What sucks is there is no uniform standard across all training programs. I have friends who are in programs that don't care what you get, and yet others are in programs stricter than mine. Overall, I still think it's harsh to hold someone back or punish them by reporting to the board an unsatisfactory based on one ITE score.

I mean, supposing I had done poorly, They would have held me back and I have already sunk 2 grand into my real boards, and have a signed contract with a group.

I just don't think you should mess with someone's life and future potential based on one test. I mean, if you fail your real boards it's on you so I'm not sure why some programs get so hung up on it.
 
Can you get the results online now or still only through your program? My program averages 2 weeks later than the rest of the country on giving us our score reports.

Same here, at least 2-3 weeks later than friends at other programs. I logged onto the ABA site and I didn't see any reports.

I think it is only through your program. I would be surprised if not all programs got their results. They probably have them and aren't giving them up. Fortunately, my program doesn't hold back graduation secondary to poor ITE scores. I am happy with mine but always room for improvement.

What would you guys have done differently/what did you do for prep?

Mainly I used M5 for about 3 1/2 weeks prior. Made it through all but 2 or 3 of the sections, with a few repeats of the higher yield sections.

Senior residents get automatically held back for six months if they score less than 15%??! Even if their clinical performance is adequate? That's terrifying. Someone could misbubble on the scantron.

Perhaps I'm mistaken or confused.

But I thought the ABA's terms for administering the test very specifically prohibited using ITE results for promotion / non-promotion purposes. It's supposed to be a tool to aid the resident in self assessment, which is why the scores come with keyword reports ... and to aid the program in identifying weak areas.


Of course, the USMLE wasn't supposed to be used for evaluation purposes, just a pass/fail test for licensing, and we all know how that turned out.
 
Definitely pleased with my score. I think the M5 board review was really helpful in the weeks leading up to the ITE.
 
Got a 37%....But I'm a CA-0 with not a day of anesthesia to my name. Even though the number stings, the score report was very informative. I'm looking at these like the PSAT's....Hopefully it wont be looked at negatively by my program.

I nearly DOUBLED my percentile score! My strategy was Hitting M&M hard and M5. Grave up on big blue as it is just memorization. This year I will be SLOWLY redoing M5, taking notes, and reading the subjects in M&M. Probably retry big blue and hall near the end. Loved M5!
 
It's pretty obvious some guys here have incentives/kickbacks for promoting this "M5 question bank."

What does everybody else think?

$1,000 per post homey! Just waiting for the check. They said its in the mail....2 months ago. I think the enthusiasm is because its new - unlike Hall & big blue . But if your looking to stir things up, go for it.

And if anyone else is getting a cut, I seriously want some of the action because Ive told a lot of people about this!
 
Never heard of M5. What is it? 83% with Hall, ACE, and M&M for me. My program limits moonlighting if below 50%, inter-departmental watch if below 37% and something more extensive involving possible report to the ABA if below 20%.

No kickbacks here either. SDN has been my go to source for what works for standardized exams since step 1. I've always appreciated feedback from other posters about which study strategies and sources are the highest yield. There aren't many anesthesiology q-banks but I found one that seems up to date and worked well for me, so the least I can do for the SDN community is share my experience so hopefully others will benefit in the way I have in the past from previous test-prep threads. I guess I could be a douche lurker and keep board study secrets to myself, but that's not how I roll.

M5 board review is an online anesthesiology board q-bank similar to Uworld. It has about 1000 questions and they are continually updated. I'm a CA-1 and I started the year out doing Hall questions but I got tired of the out dated questions so I took about a 4 month break from them and mainly just studied for my daily cases using barash, baby miller and jaffe. I have a couple ACE books but I never got around to using them. I started studying for the ITE the third week of January using the M5 q-bank exclusively. I finished the last section the Thursday before the ITE. I wish I had started the M5 earlier so I could have repeated the high yield sections but I ended up with a 90th percentile so I can't complain. I got an M5 email a while back and reportedly more questions are being added so I'll definitely be using it throughout this year.
 
Program director has the scores. Checked it and should be able to pass boards, but nothing will be taken for granted. Lots of hard work in the next several months.

I like what I hear about the M5 question bank. I'm going to sign up for it this week and use it for my board prep. I'll let everyone know how it works out for me.

What is considered a competitive ITE score for fellowships exactly.

I doubt anyone has a solid answer to this but I will take anything, even if based on pure speculation. I am particularly interested in critical care, but would like to know for all fellowships.

That fellowship is wide open for anybody at this point. But that is certainly not going to hurt you. I would think you can focus in on elite level CC programs assuming the rest of your application is solid.

As others have stated, the quality of your training program and your letters/connections will probably be more important than these scores.
 
I was fortunate enough to score a 39/88th percentile as a CA-2.

I was under a lot of pressure to do well on this exam, and unnecessarily so. But I am glad that I did well.

I read Baby Miller, I read Big Blue, I had done Hall last year...so I just reviewed that.
Most importantly what helped me, was the ABA keywords from open-anesthesia.org website.

I read 50 of them every night on my iPAD only when I exercised...

I'd say, stick to one or two sources, and know them really well. Repitition is key, esp. if your program considers ITE to be important.
 
Is the percentile amongst people at the same level of training as you, or amongst all test takers?
 
The scale and % ile varies for each class. So a 34 for ca-1 maybe a 90th percentile but a 40% for a ca-3

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was told anything above a 31 is considered "very good" and should make you competitive to all CC fellowship programs assuming rest of application is fine. I got a 32 and had to ask around because I was very concerned.

edit: I am talking about the score as a CA-1

The way that it was explained to me as a CA1 was than anything above a 32 (or was that 34?) meant that you had a "good shot" of passing the written boards at your current level of testable knowledge. Regardless, if you are worried about how 'good' your score is, just look at your percentile for your class year. If you did better than 70+% of your peers, you are doing pretty darn well.
 
does anyone have a summary of the scaled scores and what percentile corresponds to what score for each CA year? Thanks. I'm looking for the Norm table.
