I just wanted to make sure that my chances at med school are over.

I had a 2.7 GPA BEFORE last year. Last year, I failed about 5 classes withdrew from 1, retook that class over the summer and didn't pass it. I also retook another class I failed last year, this semester and I didn't do too well. I don't know what I got yet, but I think I may have marginally passed or not. This is my 5th year of undergrad because I transferred to a new school.

I still have about 3 semesters left. I know im a screw up. I know that most people in this situation would probably just give up on life and I am on the edge and I feel like im going to fall and its not going to stop.

What excuse do I have? No crippling illness, no major family crisis. I was depressed. Its not an excuse, and I chose to fail by spending my time doing extremely stupid things. I wanted to be a doctor, and a part of my still really wants too, but I got sidetracked. I got distracted from my objective and I lost sight of my purpose. Im starting to realize what's important in life now, but I know that its too late.

Anyway I just wanted to make sure that my chances at any med school is over. MD is not an option for me unless I cure cancer and AIDS and Alzheimers and the second coming of Christ happens. I get that. As for DO schools, unless I can cure one of those diseases and win a Nobel Peace Prize I think its a long shot.

Im thinking about trying to do as well as I can with the amount of credits I have left, graduating, getting a job as a research assistant, and then applying for a masters degree after that.

I know that being a doctor is near impossible now but if, by any stroke of luck I can get a suggestion, however of a long-shot it may seem to recover from this abyss of hell, then I am open to anything.

At this point, you're out of the running for any US MD school. As for DO, you will ALWAYS have a chance because of the AACOMAS grade replacement policy. So get your shiet together ASAP and start retaking classes when you're ready to get A's.

Every 2 or 3 months you re-post your same story and people give you the exact same advice. Just go back to one of your threads to answer your own questions. The approval of online strangers shouldn't hold such strength for you. This is also not live journal for you to keep posting your drama. And yes, I fully expect you to post a picture with "haters gonna hate" like you typically do.

You dug a nice hole for yourself but it is possible to get out. It is just going to take a few semesters of straight A's and grade replacement. You understand that getting into medical school is extremely competitive by doing so poorly even late in your undergrad shows that you do not want it that bad..or at least as bad as the people who get accepted to schools.

How bad do you want it?

The thing is I dont have enough credits left to make any significant change to my GPA. its going to take about 72 credits AFTER the credits I have left as an undergrad to boost my GPA to a 3.2. Since I will be graduating with a sub 3.0 gpa I wont be able to even get into a post-bac. So then how do I raise my GPA in that case? magic? Are there any post bac programs that take a sub-3.0 gpa? If I manage to do well in the remaining semesters would they weigh that more since its an improvement towards the end of undergrad?

Reading comprehension bro. You lack it. GRADE REPLACEMENT. You can apply DO, but it's a waste of time to consider US MD.

Realistically, you have a strong chance to get into medical school for as long as your previously failed classes were due to your complete lack of effort. If you really tried (gave it your all) and failed then, stop trying and move on to something else. There are other wonderful opportunities to pursue in life that involve science and helping others (besides being a physician). Now, definitely listen to others in this forum...ReTAKe classes !!! If you are looking for a more personalized game plan, you can PM me with more specifics regarding your current situation and I will be glad to help you.

You guys seem to have good intentions, but I feel that you don't know enough about his story. I'm not sharing this to discourage you to help him. By all means, help him if he allows you to help him. I'm posting this so you have some context when talking to him, and I also do because maybe repeating it enough times will mean that he finds the appropriate help.

This person comes once every semester/summer in a downward spiral about his grades being bad and wanting to be a doctor. His first major thread was locked because he spoke about hurting himself. His pattern of writing reveals depression (which he admits to in this post). He speaks about cultural expectations for being South Asian tacitly insinuating it's the only reason he pursues glorified careers. Initially, he based DOs. After realizing he's way too lost for MD, he's been accepting of DO. However, just a few short weeks ago he came by asking about getting into a JD/DO program (i doubt a sudden genuine interest in law). Bottom line is that it's not about "wanting it bad enough like breathing," misunderstanding grade replacement or finding someone to guide his pre-med journey. It is that he needs to find psychological/psychiatric help with his depression and overcoming his demons in regard to social expectations.

OP - Again, you need to find professional help first. While in college, this should be a lot easier because colleges provide it. If not and you can graduate now, I would suggest you do that instead of wasting your time. There's a reason why every semester repeats itself: you haven't found help.

Oh dear, unfortunate circumstances. 🙁

OP: Do not be ashamed to seek professional help. Its readily available and you can still move forward and become whatever it is that you truly wish to become in life! For as long as you have the will...there is a way! Best of luck to you and stay positive!!!

His account was started in July of this year.
Well, I guess it was spring, summer and now fall. I remember him having another account too, but I don't recall if it was in the same time or before.

His account was started in July of this year.

The earliest thread also is unlocked, and has no implications of suicide (that I saw at least). I think some threads may have been deleted, or this is OP's second account. In his very first thread, people were already writing him off as a troll, so I don't think Triage is mistaken or making this up - I think this guy has a history here beyond July. Regardless, even going off JUST the past six months...

OP, you're not going to get the news you want. MD's long gone, but it is, unfortunately for you, always going to be possible to do DO, thanks to grade replacement. If you do not eventually enter an osteopathic program, it is entirely because YOU didn't work and earn it. At no point will your chances drop to 0, so stop waiting for your chances to die so you have an excuse to give up without people seeing it as your choice. Either turn **** around and actually go for the DO, or admit you're walking away to live the rest of your life (which is FINE, NO shame). If your family is so demanding that they've made it impossible for you to decide for yourself, screw them. It's YOUR life.

Yup, it's over. Time to consider another career path.

Or, wait a few years, save up some money, and start over from stratch. In the mean time, fix what's broken.

well.. you have 3 semesters left for one thing. In my opinion, bust your butt these next three semesters, retake and DO WELL in your classes, rape the MCAT (by studying and praying like f*cking crazy) and sprinkle on some ECs like shadowing and tutoring, etc (more than that obviously). And maybe, just maybe.. you could have a shot.

Other than that, yeah. You, my friend, are f&%*ed.

Thanks Dr. Phil. You've really opened my eyes.

I know that MD is over. Im just focused on DO and im still pretty screwed. Even after I retake all my failed classes and finish my degree, I won't have 3.0 GPA. that still leaves the question of how I can boost my GPA once I graduate because - a) I will get rejected from post-bacs because my grades suck. b) I can never get into an SMP because my grades suck. c) my grades suck?

It's over. Your pattern of repeatedly failing classes and doing poorly even after trying indicates you won't be able to handle medical school classes. Look at other careers.

Ill definitely look into it..........

Thanks Dr. Phil. You've really opened my eyes.
It doesn't offend me that you say this. Eventually when you find help, if you ever do, you will realize the current error of your ways.

As for schooling, people are right. You've been coming here multiple times saying you want to try and what not but come back having failed classes. Having a 2.7 before 5 failed courses puts you in a deep rut. Like you said, your current grades won't get you into either a post-bacc nor an SMP. You can try going to a community college or paying out of pocket at a college that accepts non-degree students until you get a 3.0, but honestly, if by the end of your next 3 semesters you haven't improved, that will be a waste of time and money.

It really would be better for you to look into an alternative career. There are many good careers in the health professions: respiratory therapy, nursing, paramedic, surgical technologist, etc.

Finally, wrong usage of the meme.

I haven't been in this forum for long so I don't know if you posted multiple times with the same story. But I do agree if another person on this thread. A bunch of strangers shouldn't be the only thing you need to get comfort and assurance. Don't get me wrong I posted a thread myself asking what my chances were, so I don't think there's anything bad about it but...

You shouldn't feel the need to post multiple threads. People usually come here to get some facts, or confirm things about going to medical school. If you find out what you need to do you need to get your act together OR find a new path to go on. Science isn't for everybody. It's tough and it's not a walk in the park as you may have experienced.

So if you want it enough. Get your butt out of the threads and internet. Excel for the next semesters that you have left. Earn some money and go back to non credit classes and improve your GPA. This is all easier said then done. If you have time posting this thread, this means you have time hitting the books and studying your ass off.

I'm pretty sure this is OPs second account, first was like determineddoc or something. He would post his sad stories and then flame everyone lol

Yeah, you're obviously trolling. I hope you get banned.

I know this a troll thread, but it got me thinking about life and hardships. Here is my conclusion:

People seem to forget that education is a privilege and not a right. Many never get the opportunity. Don’t take it for granted and remember to always be positive. Anyone can be negative. Be better than the complainers of the world. Just do your best, and don't end up like this guy.

Ok Confucius. Good to know.

Thanks but I don't think other careers and all that other crap is for me. Sure those people may do necessary and important things since doctors can't do all of the grunt work, but it doesn't mean that I should be the one to do it.

This isn't about comfort or assurance. This is about figuring out what the best path is to med school and how I can climb out of this dungeon I have created for myself. As others suggest, I could quit like a coward, find some menial mid-level healthcare job that barely pays enough to live and to top it all of having to go to work everyday as a doctors b*tch. Knowing that I sucked too much to make into the elite and the best. If you can live with yourself like that, then that's you, but I know I can't.

Yea the secret is to be positive 24/7 and life will magically work itself out. stfu, and that didn't really work on me so keep trying harder.

This thread is useless, and it should be closed. I guess my plan is to graduate, land a research based job so I don't starve and continue taking classes on the side and raising my GPA, killing the MCAT, and hopefully getting into an SMP or a DO school after that.

Please take this advice to heart and seek psychiatric/psychological help. I have been a physician for 35 years and. although that is not my field, I can recognize someone who is in need. You urgently need this.
