I got accepted a few months ago, and since then I've realized that I have a ton of questions about what to do to get ready for Med school. I thought that this would be a great place for everyone to be able to share what they're doing/did/wish they did between acceptance and orientation!

Chilled, vacationed, partied...
JK, I went to school and went to work, nothing is really different... maybe think about moving to the place.

I built sustainable housing for orphaned albino African tribeschildren. When Ebola struck the village, I singlehandedly tended the sick, and my patients experienced a 96% survival rate. The villagers were so grateful that they would have made me their king; instead, I helped them establish a representative government with divided powers and a written constitution.

In my free time, I worked, moved, and got ready to welcome my first child into the world.

Only 96%?:eyebrow:

Go backpacking in thailand for a month. You could easily live on 20 dollars a day there including housing. Hostels are like 1.50 a night

I'm in a gap year, working full-time. My priorities are making time for friends and family before I move, taking advantage of the extra leisure time to build consistent exercise/nutrition habits, reading lots of books (some medicine related, some not) and planning two hiking trips this spring. I've had a look at some of the texts used in the curriculum at the school where I hold an acceptance and purchased a copy of First Aid. Read the intro "how to use this book" sections and skimmed some of the sciences just to get a feel for how the book is laid out and how I might want to utilize it as I begin MS1 (really liked the suggestion to de-spine and 3-hole punch it to allow for annotation pages). Considering what tools I might want to purchase, such as my own white board, stethoscope, etc., that I might need to save money for. I haven't done anything above and beyond that which would be considered pre-studying.

Overall, just enjoying my freedom, as I've worked just under full-time while studying for the past four years, and will not see this level of free time again for a very long time. 🙂

I'm in the same boat as you! I've been working and trying to save at least some money, reading a lot, hanging out with friends often, and plan on taking as awesome of a vacation as I can this coming summer. Otherwise, I'm just waiting for this new chapter to begin!

If I remember correctly, many threads on this topic in the past have seemed to agree - enjoy yourself and wait for school to begin!

Same here! I'm also trying to develop some healthy habits before school starts, so I'm learning new recipes and I've gotten into a workout routine.

Yes, I have also been actively improving my fitness! Hopefully something I can easily continue once school starts!

You made it through undergrad, volunteered, shadowed, was involved in clubs/activities/etc, got good grades and did well on the MCAT. An AdCom accepted you which means they believe you have the intelligence and work ethic to succeed in med school. There is nothing else to do.

Just make sure you don't dick around too much once you start.

Sadly, my survival rate was impacted by a multitribal war, which required a few hours of my time to resolve peaceably.
I said this before for your travel stories, but I think you’re wasting your NYTimes bestseller talent away in medicine

A lot of people say "Relax". Go traveling or on vacation. If you want to KIND OF get an headstart, you can get FA and start making Anki's (flash card) program which you can download and start making flash cards of material. Efficiency and discipline are the cornerstones of success in medical school and it wouldn't hurt to learn a bit of material before you start.

I would just say this though. The amount you might get done with that method might be limited and it might be better to chill until the start of medical school. Because once you get into medical school, expect to work 24/7 all day/every day, because the field is very much a 24/7 field. So I would recommend to rest and enjoy your life and then kick it into high gear on day 1 of medical school 🙂

I quit my job beginning of June before school started... did a lot of the Netflix and Chill thing. Slept. Hung out with a friend who was also about to start med school, vacationed. The end.

My plan, but with some travel. Good plan.

I'm planning to wrap up and leave my research job in June then fight in some tournaments and take a 2 week trekking trip in the Himalayas in July! During college I was always working, and I started working full time before my graduation so I've never taken a vacation and I'm really really excited. I'll spend whatever time left exploring the new city I move to, try to find some scenes I'm into etc. Definitely not touching a single medical textbook.

I'm doing the same things. I'm working on my recipe collection. I love to cook, but know I can't spend hours and hours anymore. MEAL PREP EFFICIENCY, Y'ALL. The workout part is going much slower.....
