J-1 to H1B

I am guessing there is a website out there that will answer my question, but my connection speed is limited right now so I'm posting here instead -

Can a J-1 visa be converted to an H1B?

(The nature of the J-1 seems to be fairly restricted, so I doubt it - but thought I'd ask anyway.)

J-1 is what again? Is that the optional training visa (OPT) you get after your student visa or is that actually a student visa? I went from student visa, to OPT, to TN and now to H1-B.
