J. Hopkins Health Science Intensive class of 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got my acceptance! 🙂 I've been on the hunt for more info on the HSI program but I can't find anything! I know that the first ever HSI class is still completing their program but I would love to hear some feedback from some of those students. Has anyone heard any personal accounts from people in the program?

Also, I'm from CT and have NO idea where to start looking for a place to live around the Montgomery Campus. I found a lot of big commercial apartments but they are SO pricey.

I was accepted too! Is anyone looking for roommates? The housing is so pricey I'm shocked!

Yes! I can't believe how much the local apartment prices are. But It's cheaper per person the more bedrooms there are so I would love to find people to share a 3 bedroom apartment with.

Hi everyone! I was admitted as well and I am looking for a roomate...

Hi! Are you still looking for roomates?

Does anyone on here mind sharing their stats or have advice. I'm applying next summer!

I am also hoping to apply for Summer 2015!

Here is some info about me:

I have 4 years of shadowing, 1 year of research during my time off, plenty of leadership positions, and work experience under my belt.

I feel this type of program will help me tremendously. I definitely need more time to progress in terms of academics. Although I cannot change my past grades and situation I hope to do extremely well in this program to help my chances.

Hopefully others can share their stats as well. Do I have a chance? Should I even bother applying?

I graduated undergrad in 2013 with a BS in Biology and a Chemistry minor with a 3.16 cGPA and a little bit above 3.0 sGPA . I have 4 years of shadowing, 1 year of research during my time off, plenty of leadership positions, and work experience under my belt.

I would definitely apply if I were you. People enter this program with different experiences and reasons. Some are looking to enhance their GPA, while others are mostly looking for MCAT help. One of the essays asks what will be different this time so if you explain that well it could only benefit you!

Thank you! I called the admissions director and told her all about me and she definitely encouraged me to apply. Yes I plan on working extra hard on that essay 🙂

Does anyone know if you can apply to this program while also in the current AMCAS cycle? For example, I want to apply now for the HSI program, but I am also being considered as an applicant at medical schools too.

you can do both.

Hi, I just got my acceptance today to start in June 2015. All of you guys are in the current class, right? If so, could you give me a few pointers/advice since I'm starting in about 4 months. Anything from the classes, to housing, to teachers, to EC opportunities, would be much appreciated. Thanks.

thegeni what were your stats? GPA wise and application wise? When did you apply? I'm applying for the Summer 2015 as well and am about to submit my application this week! Hope we're classmates!

Hi. My gpa was 3.78 and science gpa 3.76
I submitted my 5 yrs old sat of almost 1900.
My application was completed on Nov 24 and I heard back about the interview right after christmas. Then I had the interview on Jan 5th.
If you have any other questions let me know. I hope so too.
Where are you from by the way?

And good luck!

@thegeni Sorry I took so long to respond! I'm from Columbia, Maryland so Baltimore isn't that far thankfully. I work in the JH system now though so I'm hoping that might help with my application. My stats are:
GPA: 3.51 science is questionable because I'm a physician assistant and not sure whether to include some courses.
I submitted my GRE score which was abysmal because my PA program didn't make it a requirement until 2 months before the deadline!
I finished my application tonight so I could hopefully hear back by March 15th! Definitely nervous! Good luck to you unless you heard back already??

I was just accepted and will be attending this summer. That facebook group does not look active. Is there another group?

Hey guys!

I interviewed for the HSI MS Biotech on 4/21 and was accepted 4/24! For those of you interviewing and waiting on a decision, best of luck to you and keep your head high, for those accepted, CONGRATS!!

I am an out-of-state student from Florida and do not know anyone in Maryland yet, therefore I am looking for a roommate to share an apartment with. I am hoping to find a reasonably priced apartment within 5 miles of the Montgomery Campus. I figured it would be better to live with a roommate because 1) it’s cheaper and 2) they can unlock the door when I lose my keys (but hopefully that won’t happen)!

I am ideally looking at (for) a 2bed/2bath so we both can have our own space and in a safe apartment building.

I am a 22-year old female and would prefer a female roommate. I am looking to move in by May 25th at the latest.

I am hoping to visit the campus on May 3rd and I will also be making appointments to view apartments, so if anyone is interested, PM me 🙂

Hey everyone. I am looking for a roommate. I also recently visited Rockville to look at housing. Please PM me if you are also looking for a roommate or would like to talk about housing, as I would be glad to share my findings.

What kind of medical schools did the previous classes get into? I just got into the program and was wondering if this program helps with medical school admissions.

Thanks!

Also, do medical schools value AAP programs less than other Johns Hopkins masters programs?
