Jeez. Did anyone who thought they completely botched their interview get acceptance? Or vice vers?

I got to the interview today, i was literally so tired from travelling around the country, so when it was my turn to interview, my voice was just shot, mouth so dry, couldnt talk with rhythm, totally fumbled it, didnt even elaborate my answers when the interviewer looked at me like "thats it?"

Just felt horrible during and after interview.

I even grabbed the interviewers water bottle and asked her if can drink it lol. Popped it open, chugged it down like a friggin champ. 🙁

Now that i think about it, maybe i was tired + dehydrated + hungry as well. Or was i overly nervous? This is my 4th interview, it cant be that.

I think i completely blew it.
God bless america.

Thought I botched my interview at LECOM. Put on the waitlist Dec 1, was accepted Jan 1. Actually, I didn't really botch it, so much as I thought I didn't answer the questions as well as the other applicants in the group interview.
The dentist I shadowed is on the adcom at a DS and he told me that someone could have a horrible interview and still be offered admission if the rest of their application is stellar. "Schools need researchers and those in academia, so doing poorly at an interview will not necessarily exclude you from a school."

Thanks for the positive side of the story🙂

I felt like i was hungover/beat during the interview and i still cant believe i snatched my interviewer's water and chugged it down.. Lulz.

She looked at me very worriedly. Or maybe she was thinking." this kid aint coming here" lol

Take it easy dude! At least she won't forget you...haha

I dont know if my interviewer had a bad day or just always like that, but he sounded pissed off when he met me. I tried my usual reverse interview technique and couldn't get him to crack ... usually the schools love that kind of stuff and just keep blabbing on about how awesome their program is, which most are pretty sweet. But this guy...doesnt.

Whatever I said, he just says 'okay.' and writes something down. Then asked me to ask another question. Doesnt even give me a chance to talk about myself, my hobbies, why I chose dentistry. When I thanked him when we were saying our farewells, he said 'sure'.

And lo behold, guess who was on the other side of my acceptance call? That interviewer. I tried to act surprised because I found out about my acceptance via their portal the day before. He said 'Oh really? I hope this is what you wanted.'

Honestly. Weirdest. School. Ever.

Good program though.

My WesternU interview was awkward and i rambled a ton. accepted Dec 1

Haha exactly. I rambled on more than I wanted, and the interviewer drilled me about hockey and how "there weren't very many rinks in LA." He even asked me how I'd cope without hockey. Thought for sure I wasn't getting in. Accepted Dec. 1st.

My creighton interview was amazing. Great conversation. The guy seemed to genuinely like me and I think I did a good job showing him I was interested in the school. I still haven't heard back.

At Pitt, they asked the standard question "why us". I answered. My interviewer said "well doesn't your state school have that stuff too". I kind of botched the response and tried to talk about how they were different (ultimately, every school is going to have similar opportunities). It was an uncomfortable interview. Lots of long, awkward pauses. I was accepted.

I know interviews play a big role in the process, but I have talked to too many people who have had a similar experience to me where they bomb an interview and get in/rock an interview and don't get in.

you guys are right, there really is nothing I can do, and there could be a nice surprise later on.
I totally agree that you never know what the end result will be.

I thought I interviewed well at UDM and still got waitlisted, even after being complimented on DAT and GPA combo, and were also told "good answer" couple of times.
Apparently, "good answer" pretty much equates to "how'd you come up with that bull****, dang kid, impressive"

Well, my interviewer asked if I went clubbing last night because my blouse was unbuttoned in the middle. Wtf! Probably undid itself when I sat down. So embarrassing. The basically messed up my mojo for the rest of the interview. Awkward answers, long pauses. But then again, I got in. Probably because of the unbuttoned blouse... Btw this is Columbia.
