Jefferson 2008 Waitlist Movement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious what "other linkages" might mean? Is it the Post-Bacc students or DIMER.

linkage should be postbacc students with a binding acceptance contingent on MCAT performance (I belive 9 in every section) - so it could be MCAT scores or simply looking over the linkage applications

Does anyone know how many students of the 255 includes 6-year Penn State Direct Med students?

nope, another quiet day spent closely monitoring my phone.

did anyone when they were first waitlisted, hear from dr brooks that the admissions committee reviewed them very favorably but that there was just not any space at the current time? My buddy was told this when he was waitlisted although i didnt quite hear that myself.

Sadly, I don't remember getting quite that response from Dr. Brooks either. However, that's not to say that she wasn't very positive and hopeful that I would "be fine."

Did anyone get a call yesterday??

yeah dr. brooks said that to me as well.. hopefully we'll all get in then :p

good luck everyone - i'll be withdrawing from the HP list :)

haha right on.. where will you be attending pauven?

hey so any news? it's 10 days past may 15th and it seems that no one has heard a peep?

well it seeems like from previous posts that most waitlisters are in a holding pattern until june while they fill their requirement for the DIMER program.

DIMER program? what's that? how do i not know about it?

edit* o wait is that the deleware program for deleware residents? what would that have to do with us getting off the waitlist? do they have to fill the program before they can take us off?

Hey guys,

From what I've read from this year and from the last few years of archived stuff on SDN, waitlist acceptances usually don't happen until late may or early June. Jefferson has a lot of obligations to Penn State, The state of Delaware and the post-bacc program that they have to sort out before we get taken care of. That means that they're waiting on MCATs, GPAs and all that great stuff. This pattern has been repeating itself for the last couple years, so I wouldn't worry about there not being any spots left for us...just a matter of time. This wait is way too painful! Best of luck to everybody and keep us all updated.

good to know.. thanks for doin that bit of digging for us

I'm so stoked!!! got the call from Dean Callahan today at around 4:30! The list is definitely moving...best of luck to all! & thanks also for the helpful info! I've been watching this thread like a hawk for the past few weeks...lol.

Congrats! That's awesome! Were you on the high priority list? Were you part of any linkage programs (postbac, dimer, etc.)? I'm just trying to gage where we're at on the movement.

Wow! Congrats on the acceptance. I'm so jealous. There goes our theory that Wednesday is the adcom meeting day! Goob were you on the HP waitlist or in a particular program? I think everybody is trying to get a sense of what group they are starting to call so we can brace ourselves, so any input helps. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!

oh yeah that would be helpful to know!~ I was on the HP waitlist (since April). so either they're done with accepting from their special programs or starting with HP simultaneously? best of luck to all of you!! I'm sure spots will be opening up soon and everyone seems to be sending updates/showing interest which is what I did. lol and like jelly, I was told by dr. callahan about a week or so ago in an e-mail to "hang in there"~ so don't fret!

so far one person got in off the WL. i think alot more will in the coming weeks.

I'm a staunch Atheist and I'm almost praying to get in.

add me to the 100's of ppl on the jeff HP waitlist.

got an email from Dr. C and she said movement is awfully slow this year. seems like all the ppl on this thread realllly want to go to jeff..so maybe we will all get in :)

these waitlist threads are addictive...just got on today and cannot get off!!

good luck to you all :luck:

Hey Pstars,

Did you get the sense that it is slow b/c they have other things to do, or b/c there just isn't that many spots being vacated?

hey there,

she said that withdraws were coming in slowly this year. didnt give a reason why.

its super annoying being on waitlists...but atleast there is hope :)

Does anyone have a sense of how many people are on the HP list or how many people have been taken off of it in recent years?

When I interviewed, they said about 25% of the class, or 60 students typically come from the wait list. They did not specify HP vs regular. I have no idea how many people are on the HP list. I hope this year is not "atypical".....

I'm starting to be a bit scared since I am not on the HP list. But they do say people come off both lists.

GRRRRR.

nearly 6:30.....no word again for me....anyone hear??

GRRRRR.

hrm in a thread froma previous year, someone who goes to Jeff explained that people are drawn from both lists but they take ppl from the HP first unless there is no one to take from the HP list if they need to fill a special spot, like for the DIMER program. Other than that its from the HP listfirst.

I think I just read that post...

So I wonder if there is anyone out there who got into Jeff who was on the regular watilist and was not a resident of delaware or an URM....

It looks like I'm hosed for this year.

Very sad. I'll still fight for it, but it looks like a dead horse.

Its a new day...and hopefully they decide to call people today.

good luck to everyone :luck:
and keep the rest of us updated

so noone knows how many people in all are on the jeff waitlsit..?

I wish I knew too! They seem to be pretty hush hush about that.

You guys should do what I am doing and just stop worrying about it. If its meant to be itll happen. But itll be a lot less stressful for us if we arent agonizing over it.

A few days ago Dr. Callahan emailed me back telling me patience was key. I realized she couldnt be more right. This was never designed to be as quick a process as it is thorough. We have all expressed to Dr. Callahan and Dr. Brooks how much we loved Jefferson and want to go there so now the trick is to be patient and see how things shake out. I mean what more could we do that doesn't make us look borderline fanatical?

So theres no reason to add to the stress by agonizing by your phones every single afternoon hoping for a call. Your phones will ring whether youre staring at them or not :)

aww...love the positivity :)
yeah...im trying to keep myself super occupied so i dont think about it. it nice knowing that there are 1000's of other borderline fanatical people out there just like me ;)

Agreed. I would love a call, but I'm not checking my phone every minute. Instead I'm using my anxious energy to be productive and apply it toward making my application the best it can be for next cycle in case I don't get in. It's about harnessing that energy to your advantage and making something good out of it.

The cards will fall as they may, regardless of how many hours you spend worrying about it. Fretting over something you have no control over and that hasn't even happened yet is wasted energy that could be put to better use. As I say, no use crying over milk that hasn't even spilled yet. ;)

(Not to say that I can't empathize with the spot you're all in!)

Best of luck everyone! Hang in there! :luck:

I am excited about everyone's optimism but why do people think the wait list will move in the next few weeks?

people hope.. theres no logical reason to expect it.

Hey guys...I have a phone "appointment" with Dr. Brooks at 3:00 PM. This is just a call to see what is going on with the waitlist...if anything..and to tell her that i'm still here waiting. I'll post something if anything new comes up. good luck all.

Any news from Dr. Brooks?

The news I heard last week, as I am sure FFF will confirm, wasnt very promising as Dr. Brooks explained the list is not moving like it has in past years and they have taken far fewer so far than they typically do by this time. She hopes a ripple effect opens some spots in a few weeks but beyond that isnt sure what is going to happen.

In other words, the day to day worrying is useless, so do yourselves a favor instead of asking every day if there is news, its easier not to worry about it so much and keep improving yourself to make yourself a stronger applicant. We probably wont be hearing much until at least the middle of the month
