I just called Jefferson, and after not hearing from them for almost 5 months, they invited me for an interview. Call your schools, folks. It's not over yet.

when is your interview? i think i scammed myself an interview.....lol, i emailed dean callahan begging and she said Mr. San Diego will contact me for an interview, and i just called him and made myself a march 9th interview.......how ghetto is that!

Haha, wends and SRQGirl, you guys are awesome. 😀

Dean Callahan seems pretty awesome. I have a friend that is a first year and he says the best thing about the school is the Dean. While interviewing there she came up to me at the post interview wrap up when we were just standing around socializing and told me that I made her laugh (I guess I'm a funny guy 😀 . Anyway, she is highly friendly and when you interview I would recommend speaking with her.

What did u talk about? Did you give them an update letter or just ask for a status check?

Were you going to receive an interview invite anyway? Or did the call make the difference?

raistlin, im not too sure, i was complete at jeff since oct, and called several times but was always told i was still under review etc....it wasnt until i emailed the dean that some action happened, cause i've talked to both donna and mr. san diego several times checking my status.....

i wont be certain until he emails me with more details.......and it does seem like a shady way to get an interview so i'll be more sure its concrete when i get an email

this was out of pure desperation, im not one to sit around and wait for news, i kinda make some of my own lol.

91 page views = 91 phone calls to Jefferson?

I called Jefferson a while back. I told the secretary I was very interested in interviewing and she said she would pass it on to the admissions committee. The next day, I got an email interview invite. I interviewed last week and was accepted yesterday. Good luck everyone! Oh, and I absolutely loved Jefferson when I went. The atmosphere is incredible and the people are extremely nice.

right on!
that's exactly how i got my wake interview.
i just called to check the status of my app, and before you know it i was scheduling an interview.
call em up. don't leave your schools hanging lest they leave you hanging.

Sigh...just got a "conditional acceptance" from Jeff today, which I guess is better than an outright rejection, but the bad news is that I have to take the April MCAT. I took it in August and bombed the PS (did well on the other sections) and they want me to raise it two points. I had a feeling schools who interviewed me would want me to retake it - Jeff's the first one I've heard from. We'll see about the others. But I've got to hit the books again...oh, this is painful.

They don't accept lower than an 8 on each individual section...so while I soared high above average in the VR and MS and did fine on the BS, they want to see me pull up my PS two points. It makes sense - it was a really bad score - but it's still disheartening!

So when would you start then in 2006?

Actually I'd be accepted into the 2005 class! Which is nice. They've been very accommodating. I can't blame them for wanting me to re-take it. I'm just being like a grumpy 5-year-old, but I'll whip myself into shape soon enough. I know I can do better this time around.

That's awesome, I wish you the best of luck, and I would suggest trying the examcrackers physics books, especially the 1001 question they are helpful.

If you don't mind me asking are you a nontraditional student, or do you have any extensive extra curricular work, or amazing GPA that they are able to overlook the MCAT issue.

Well I really hope that the physical sciences section score boosts for you and who knows maybe the other sections might also 😉

Hey thanks man, I actually just purchased the Examcrackers big book plus the 1001 physics questions. I hope it's better than the Kaplan book I used last summer!

I am a non-traditional student, but my connection to Jefferson is that I volunteered there all throughout high school and then worked in a neurosurgery lab there during college. I'm also four years out of college, did lots of international travel/study, a fellowship with the CDC with some published research, am currently a social worker, etc. GPA was good so...just the MCAT holding me back, darn thing. Not sure yet about the other schools I interviewed at, but who knows? Maybe they'll see past that one section? Here's hoping...

wow, that's crazy - do other schools do that too? i'm waiting on 10+ schools... maybe i should give them a call?

I am a first year at Jefferson and I want to stress one thing to all people interested in Jefferson: they really like people who really want to go here. I made it very clear over several months that Jefferson was where I wanted to be and they really liked that. I love it here and it really is a great school. The best thing about Jefferson is the people, we have so many supportive people here and everyone really can help you with any sort of issue. The classes are well taught and the professors really make things interesting. Like any schools there is the occasional dry professor or boring lecture, but overall they are actually fun to go to. SO, if you really want to go here make this clear to either Dr. Callahan or Ms. Hirshmen, they are really great.

Ohhhh I'd just love to go there...it's like home. I wish I could just be IN already.

They must really like you because they gave you a conditional acceptance SO STUDY HARD. I am sure I will see you in the fall.

Good luck on the MCAT.

So all you need to do is boost the PS? Can you screw up Bio and Verbal and still get in? If so, focus your heart out on PS. Study hard and don't let us catch you loafing around here. 🙂

Hey, I still have 13 weeks 🙂 I don't have to improve the other scores, but if I bomb them it probably wouldn't be a good sign. I really need a tutor for physics, though. I am awful at it. There's no one in this godforsaken barren tundra to help me, though...hmm...

I told you to get out of here, missy!

Didn't you hear my cry for help? 🙂 🙁

Calling all physics majors!!!!

This lady needs your immediate assistance.

In return, she will bake you brownies.

How did you know I bake brownies?? REALLLLLLLLLLLY good ones...

The secret is olive oil.

First, congrats on the acceptance. Doesn't matter if it's "conditional"...

Second, you don't really need a tutor. PS was my nightmare as well. The first time I took the mcat, I got a miserable score on the PS section. Second time around, I increased by 3 points and ended up with a good score... just as good as my BS section. It IS possible!! 🙂

1) if you are like me and just don't get physics, focus on gen chem. On the actual exam, do all the gen chem passages first and then come back to physics when you are done.
2) find your old physics book and notes and start reading from the beginning
3) do all the problems that your prof gave you at the time
==> act like you are re-taking the class
4) use examkrackers (sp?) to practice problems
5) if it is still makes no sense to you (it still didn't make any sense to me!), just memeorize what you have to do for each "type" of passage. There are only so many of them and some topics are popular (they come back in every MCAT test). Look at the answers and memorize the steps you have to go through to get the answer -- if you really dont get it, no need to try to "understand" why they do what they do... Just memorize it and do it!

I realize that it's not ideal, but it worked for me. And, it may work for you.
I hope this helps a little!

Gluck! :luck:

Good advice, thanks! My main problem is total attention deficit at the moment; lack of motivation; focusing on the possibility that I may get accepted elsewhere when I should just focus on studying instead...maybe I just need to give myself a few days. Jefferson is worth taking it again, I know. Gotta put the pedal to the metal...just not tonight. Or tomorrow night. Maybe the night after that. 🙂

Hey everyone,

I sent an update letter last week (about research, my fall grades, some other things.) They said they got it. Do you think I should email the dean too?? I've heard nothing from them so far. Or is that overkill??

yeah, definitely send it. it could only help. i don't think anyone in jefferson admissions would ever say, "wow, i wish this person would quit telling us how interested they are in our school. does anyone have a small, thin envelope i can put this girl's rejection letter in?" 😉 just make sure you write about why you want to go to jefferson (if you want to go), not just why you are a good applicant. good luck!

Wow, I feel so ghetto right now...I just took everyone's advice and emailed the Dean about an interview, and she responded right away and said that she could squeeze me in!! I was already going to be in NY during the end of Feb, so she said possibly around that time, and that the interview coordinator would get back to me to schedule. I feel like I cheated the system or something!! :scared: Or maybe I'm just dreaming?? Now I'm wondering what other schools I can contact...?? 🙄

So, I was gonna send my LOI through snail mail, but since everyone is sending emails... I guess I'll try that instead.

So, the Dean is Dr. Clara Callahan, right? Would be sad to send my email to the wrong person... 😛

Can someone confirm or refute this please?

Thank you!

Yes, she's the Dean 🙂

Thanks, susan! And, congrats on your interview! 🙂 If only I could get one as well... Sigh. Crossing fingers. I would love to go to Jefferson. :luck:

Ur welcome!! Just ask, I never expected to receive a positive response. I've been complete since end of July!! So I figured, I had nothing to lose...Good luck 🙂 It's not official for me until the interview coordinator contacts me, so I will pray that he does, haha

Yes, you were my hero, so I followed in your footsteps haha...anyways, do you happen to have the interview guy's number or email??? I still don't believe her, so I need to schedule it to feel the relief haha...thanks! I just hope these aren't sympathy interviews, and that we have a chance, I mean they wouldn't give us an interview if we had no chance to begin with, right?? 😕

this is crazy!

i'm gonna give this a whirl too...you guys wrote about how much you would like Jeff and how it's a top choice and why you are a good candidate (yadda yadda yadda) right??

one more thing - i can't find an email address specifically for her...just a generic one for the dean. which one did you use?

those who emailed the dean could u give us her email address and her name..thanks

Okay guys, this is really crazy... I was inspired by the posts this morning to email the dean, hoping to get an interview too. Well, she responded to me at 5:15 with the following:

My first response was "Hell yeah!!! I got an interview at Jefferson." And then I thought, "Hey wait, my name is Beth." So I get on SDN to share the questionably good news and find that indeed, a girl named Susan got the same email. I'm thinking she just had Susan on the brain when she wrote my email, and I will get an interview too. I mean, she wouldn't mistakenly write to Susan twice, would she?

So, Susan, did your email happen to be addressed to Beth?

I forgot to post the email. Oh well, it was just email that said "Dear Susan" and assured me that someone will be contacting me about an interview.

beth - what email address did you use?

Just the generic main one from the website. Dean.JMC or something

Does Dean Callahan reply to all the emails, or just the one that might be contact for an interview?

hey beth,

ok that is really weird...but yeah, i did get an email from her saying that someone would contact me about the interview. She actually also gave me the possible date, since I had told her I would be in town during a certain period of time. I'm sure she just had me on her mind or something, but you should email her back and check. so weird!! 🙂 Good luck!
