Jefferson interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow. Okay, if she wrote you regarding specific dates, then I'm sure she'd remember writing the email and not write an email intended for you two times. That is a way bigger mistake than replacing "Susan" for "Elizabeth." I mean, come on, the names are quite similar. THey both have one "a," for instance. Is your last name Stein, by chance? Nahh. She must have just been thinking of you. Damn you, Susan! My boyfriend won't stop making fun of me. He keeps saying, "Oooh, Susan, I love you so much. I'm so proud of you Susan!"

I wrote Dr. Callahan a LOI in the fall and got an interview invite 2 days after I mailed the letter. I am not sure if she got the letter before the invite was sent. My interviewer asked me about the letter and if I still stood behind what I wrote in the letter. I got "the call" from Dr. Callahan a week after my interview. Based on my experience I would definitely encourage people interested in Jefferson to contact Dr. Callahan.

So it's preferrable to write to Dr. Callahan instead of Grace Hershmann?

 Just email her back, I'm sure you got an interview too

Good news Susan! I have an interview too. I called today and said the dean emailed me, and he said, "Susan?" No joke. But I told him my name, and he said something like, "Ahhh, Elizabeth from Georgia." Much better. So, Jefferson in March. I'm really excited.

Haha...I wish the dean would refer to me by first name when I called! (I haven't tried yet). Did you talk to the Dean, or the interview coordinator? I'm still waiting to hear back from the interview coordinator, and I'm really tempted to try and call first...do you happen to have the guy's info?

contact the dean

clara callahan [email protected]

i wrote her telling her i'm excited about my upcoming interview. she wrote me back in 2 hours telling me that she's excited about my visit and looking forward to meeting me. very nice lady

i hadn't heard from them in a long time. so i told one of my friends to drop a letter of recommendation on my behalf to the adcom office. he did and a few days later, i got an interview. he also got a call from dr. callahan stating that they would try and interview me and thanked him for his input

To all the people who got invites after calling/emailing/writing, don't feel "ghetto" about it. You wouldn't have gotten those interviews if you weren't already selected to get them. I am sure that they didn't give you invites just because you called and expressed your interest. As I will explain below, they didn't give me one just because I wrote a LOI... So, congrats! That's awesome!! 👍

So, my story: I sent an email to the Dean on friday and she got back to me today. She said she couldn't give me an interview... So, I know I'll be rejected even though I haven't received the letter yet. That's my third rejection, but the two others didn't really hurt. This one went straight through my heart, because I really would have loved to attend Jefferson... and I thought I had a good shot... 🙁 🙁 🙁

Anyways. Gluck everyone! :luck: :luck:

i thought Dr. Clara Callahan is the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at Jefferson Medical College, am i wrong, because thats how i addressed the letter, please tell me this is her title

Yes, that's her title. Vice Dean, Dean... they are all deans to me.

Thanks for the kind words Kit Kat. I'm glad that my interview offer was genuine, but I'm sorry you didn't get one from a school that you really want to go to. I guess emailing deans may be a way to expedite the inevitable. I still think it's a good idea because even if they are already planning to offer you one, it shows interest. DOn't give up on your other applications!

What is the right email address for Dr.C.Callahan;

[email protected]

or

[email protected]

Thanks for the info guys.

I would go with either Clara.Callahan at jefferson.edu, or JMC.admissions at jefferson.edu . The first will, most likely, be her personal email, and the second is to the admissions office, which would send it to someone like Grace Hershmann or Dr. Callahan. The Dean.JMC one probably goes to the Dean's office, which isn't the correct office, as far as I can tell. It's all very confusing. To answer a previous question, Dr. Callahan IS, indeed, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs and Chair of the Admissions committee. Dean Nasca (really nice man, by the way) is Dean of the Medical College, but he doesn't do much with admissions, I don't think. There are several "deans," but they all have different responsibilities.

I am glad that people are emailing the admissions office to try and wrangle interviews - it shows how much they like this school, which is definitely a plus when it comes to application/interviewing time. Good luck!

I had actually just emailed the Dean.JMC email and addressed it to Dean Callahan (oops), but she replied, so I guess someone had just forwarded the email to her? I was hoping it'd be the right email so I don't come off as a ******, but oh well...whatever works 😀

For those who e-mailed dean Callahan, how long did it take to get a response? I sent an e-mail asking if she got my update letter which I sent 2.5 weeks ago and expressing my desire to interview at Jeff to [email protected] late Mon night (she would presumably have gotten it Tues), and so far have not received a reply. I know it hasn't been that long, but from reading the posts on this thread it sounds like people were hearing back the same day. If I don't hear back by, say, Friday, would it be appropriate to call?

I wouldn't call if I were you. It took her almost two weeks to reply to me. I was in the same position and was about to send her another e-mail (I mean two weeks is a long time right) but luckily she replied before I sent that second e-mail. I got an interview so just be patient, I am sure that after this thread she got at least 100 e-mails so don't be quick to think that she should reply the next day. Good Luck

Thanks Dr AYY! That's very reassuring to hear--I was thinking since everyone else heard back so quickly (or so it seemed) that maybe it was a bad sign that I hadn't received a response yet. Your experience seems to prove otherwise! I hope I don't have to wait 2 weeks though. Good luck on your interview!

Thank you so much guys!!!!!!
I sent Dean Callahan an e-mail on Monday night and got an interview invite today!
Thanks for this thread!

I sent a letter of interest to the Dean on Saturday, but to the Dean.JMC address. Should I send it to Dean Callahan's address also??? What do you think????

For those of you who've gotten recent interviews from Jefferson, when are they scheduled? I was just wondering how late they are scheduling at this point. I know they interview until April. Are they booking up for close to that yet?

mistress, it took her 8 days to respond to my email so give her some time... as far as interview dates, i received my interview invite last week and am scheduled to interview next wednesday, so i assume there are still plenty of spots left...

They emailed me maybe two weeks inadvance, or so. Had I rescheduled, they woulda given me a March date, so I took it.
And they got back to me a week afterwards 😀 😀 😀 😍

I got the interview invite yesterday and they scheduled me for March 3rd. I am trying to get an earlier date though. Good Luck. (P.S. I know someone else got an invite for March 16th as well).

I just got an invite for Jefferson two nights ago (at 11:56pm -- er.. I didn't think the admissions comittee worked THAT late!) for March 16th. I guess I'll be meeting your friend there!

I sent an update/interest e-mail to the Dean 4 days ago, and I got an invite today  so they're still sending them! Thank you SDN for all the great advice!!!

PS: does anybody know if late march interviews are for waitlist spots?
