Jefferson v. Rochester

Look at the match list for yourself, it's under the 2006 Match Lists. What is all of this Jeff vs The World nonsense?

Sorry. I'm not trying to bash Jeff. I liked the school a lot when I visited.

However, I liked Rochester too.

I withdrew my app from other schools and am now just deciding between these two.

I'm pretty torn, and am looking for strengths and weaknesses of both.

If you go to Jeff, what do you like about it?

Are there things you don't like?

Thanks.

my last comment was purely in jest, appologies if I offended you. It just seems as though there have been alot of threads labeled "Jeff vs. X" lately. There is a lot to like about Jeff, not a whole lot to dislike in my opinion, if you have more specific questions you can ask me, but as for me pontificating about the virtues, or deriding the shortcomings, of Jefferson - neither one of us have that much time. Take care.

I would base this decision on which place you feel more comfortable with and not which place matched better.

To me, it seems the match is based more on the student than on the med school. If you excel at both med schools, I feel the same opportunities should be available to you!

I've heard Jeff doesn't match well.

What are people's thoughts?

I would go to Rochester. I like the way the name sounds better than Jefferson. That being said, I know next to nothing about these two schools.

I personally think Rochester is a better school, but if you like being in a major city, then Jefferson may be a better option. Either way, you can't go wrong with either school.

Do you go to Penn?

CDQL:

Why do you say the match is based more than the applicant then the school?

Do your match results mainly come primarily from your board score?

Or is it your class rank?

If it is class rank, then doesn't school rep matter as well?

Thanks.

Figured.

OP, feel free to PM me with specific questions about Jeff if you want. I just matched, so I have some time on my hands. 🙂

Otherwise my advice would be to go to both second looks and then just go with your gut. You want to feel comfortable at the school you choose, the rest will fall into place. There are rumors out there about every school and mostly they are pretty much false. At least the horrible ones pertaining to Jefferson are, in my experience. Congratulations on having such a decision to make!

Your match results are based on a combination of factors: your grades, your board scores, your class rank, your school rep, your letters of recommendation, your research projects, your interviews, etc... etc...

If you do well in all those aspects, then even if your school rep isn't the greatest, it shouldn't hurt you too much.

Conversely, I've never heard of a student with poor grades, poor board scores, etc... who matched somewhere because of the prestige and reputation of their medical school.

Like the last poster said, you need to pick a place that you feel comfortable with (and that you can afford!). School rep is just one of the many factors that residency programs look at and in the end, it is one of the smallest factors they consider.

I go to U of R and strongly recomend it. My experience has been awesome. i actually withdrew my app from Jefferson when i got U of R. Nonetheless, in the end it has to be yr decission. Our strength: Early clinical exposure very well integrated with theory and home of the biopsychosocial model of medicine. Are u coming for the second look day?
