been a lurker for quite some time and def learned a lot that I wouldn't have otherwise. Needed some insight on the decision I'm to make in the near future - Jefferson or George Washington - any input/info?

IMO Philadelphia >>> Washington

And Jefferson is ranked higher (if that matters to you) than GW (which i think is not ranked at all!) Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Both are great schools. I live in Philadelphia so most of my doctors are at Jefferson and they are awesome.

They have an especially great ortho program at the Rothman Institute.

Since I'm from the area and had some of their med students do exams on me through out the years at various doctor appts and were all very competent and nice.

Jefferson is in a good location right in Center City Phildelphia lots to do bars/nightlife in the area.

Jefferson is one of my dream schools and if you have to pick between there and GW you are in a pretty ideal position, GW I don't know too much about yet but it's in DC which is a fun city as well.

Either school is great, good luck on your choice!👍

I'd pick Jeff because 3 of the best docs I know went there.
If you'd like to be in an area that is known to be great for singles in their 20's though, GW is the place to be (I've heard).

Well, Jefferson may be a bit more cheaper. GW also doesn't have any student housing, which is something that Jefferson does offer. I'm not a big fan of commuting-oriented schools because that usually means less camaraderie amongst classmates. I don't know too much about Jefferson's curriculum, but GW's is very lecture heavy. So, that may be a consideration as well. City-wise, I would probably prefer Philly, but Washington is good as well.

But if you really want to pursue something in either health policy, public or global health, then GW may be the place to be.

can i ask what your reasons were toasterthief? Other than simply being a good school and great clinical opportunities - what's the pull for jeff?

I'm leaning towards GW b/c i've been looking at this school for a while, am a current mph student and am definitely pulled in by the public health opportunities. Other than the heavy schedule, what else should I watch out for at GW?

thanks everyone for the input

My advice is to go with your gut. There will be a lot of pros and cons at each school but med school is a major grind, you will want to be where you are most comfortable and then have the best chance to succeed. If your gut says GW, go with it.

I thought I heard on here somewhere that Jefferson had a combined program MD/MPH with Johns Hopkins that is supposed to be very good.

anyone got a link, ive never heard this?

Hi All,

Yea, Jefferson does have the combined MD/MPH program with Hopkins. I dont have a link, but they did tell us about it during interviews

George Washington has become a very good medical school, a great place for IM residency and Infectious Disease fellowship. GW's omission from the USNews & WR rankings prove again that the list is fiction.

Jefferson is linked with Hopkins, a duel MD/MPH Program. First four years at Jefferson for the MD, and the fifth year at Hopkins for the MPH.

I agree pretty much with the above. They are both good schools in nice areas. I am from DC but have been living in Philly for the past 4 years and honestly prefer DC to Philly but they are both nice. I think that you would get a good education at both.

good luck cookie, let us know what u decide

sup homies

to go with my gut and where i see myself in a few years, gw seems to be the right answer. gonna hold off on any final decision till financial comes in and any other factors that may make a diff will be available to consider!

thanx again for all your help!!

I'm at Jefferson and have had a great experience. My favorite thing about the first 2 years- recorded lectures!! I'm sitting at my desk at home right now in my pj's watching lectures from earlier this morning. later, I'll walk the dog and then study outside. can't beat that! (there are, of course, other great things about the school too. but right now I appreciate the recorded lectures the most.)

send me a message if you have any questions about Jeff.
