While I approve of JetPropPilots willingess to exterminate that horrible species Trollus Hominus, I am concerned that he needs to update his weaponry. While his use of the polymer framed Glock is certainly state of the art, he continues to use a 30-06 for longer range shots. Just as anesthesia has moved to away from older anesthesia such as Cylclopropane so has the military moved on from the 30-06. While I have much appreciation for the 1903 Springfield and the vaunted M-1, there are more modern approaches.

I would first recommend JP consider the 7.62 mm. This offers ballistic advantages over the 30-06. This is the current Army weapon as demonstrated by the M-24. This is an excellent weapon, capable of taking care of trolls to 1000m.

This also has capability of upgrading to the .300 win mag for really reaching out and touching someone.
If there is a desire to go a little more old school the the M-21(renamed the m25) continues to be used by special forces and offers the advantage of semi-automatic fire for multiple trolls:

Finally for that long range troll (or trolls that you have taken an exceptional dislike to) consider the Barrett M82A1. With confirmed kills in excess of 2000m and the ability to shoot through armored personell carriers (and Chevy Suburbans) this weapon will definitely take care of any troll.

Finally while I have respect for JetProps anesthesia skills, I believe that he makes poor choice in his shot selection. He uses head shots exclusively. Head shots are generally not recommended. Instead the chest has a higher hit probability. We would hate to have a Troll get away because of poor shot selection. I would have JetProp review the US Army sniper manual:
http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/23-10/toc.htm

I thank JetProp for his service and wish him good hunting.

SAID WEAPONRY ADVICE TAKEN.

AND INSTITUTED.

and in an undertone, heard by none, Jet says:

"SEVEN SIX TWO MILLIMETER"....

"FULL METAL JACKET"...

and may I add, Dave, after looking at the link...

SUCH A COOL LOOKING GUN!!!!!! ....I LIKE IT!!!!! F U KKING SEVEN SIX TWO MILLIMETER!!!! WITH A SCOPE, HONED ON THAT MWBEAN SLIMSTER!!!!

Jet locks and loads new artillery, following David PACs advice, looking for a CHEST SHOT now, although shooting a troll in the head is the ultimate thrill, Jet follows the educated, who will most certainly enhance his kill ratio....

....the crosshares are lowered from the troll's head, down to the wider, more prominent chest area of the troll....yesss....David PAC is right....my breathing pattern leaves the crosshares unaffected....yes.....crosshares still on the chest area.....Jet awaits MWBEAN's slightest move......because now, with Jet's heightened education, Da Bean's chest will be opened at the slightest move with a seven-six-two-millimeter round.....an injury that an IV with crystalloid and Hespan won't cure....

OH MY GOD.....THERES BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!

Jet shoulders the new rifle given to him By David the PA, and disappears into the horizon...

....said trolls are weary now, new artillery, new objectives......the trolls know their days are numbered...

....MW, take name, Slimster.....my new SEVEN SIX TWO MILLIMETER IS LOCKED AND LOADED AT YOUR......

.......CHEST...........

No problem I have a repro M1 and an original 1903. I appreciate old school. However if you really want to go old school let me suggest:
http://www.navyarms.com/html/single_shot_rifles-carbs.html
I have a high wall. What I would really like is a "Quigley" in 45-110 or 45-120. Boom.

The one problem with chest shots is you have to scope them and look to see if they are wearing body armor. Then you either want to use AP or go for the head.

Once again good hunting

Dave

WAIT A MINUTE BRO....

ALL THIS S H IT AND YOU HAVE TO QUESTION ABOUT BODY ARMOR????

WHEN IN THE BEGINNING, JET WAS DA CONISUER OF HEADSHOTS????

:)laugh:)

JET IS RELEARNING WITH SAID DELEGATE ADVICE.....

AND WILL MAKE THE CHOICE....

KNOWING THE MARKSMAN SKILL INNATE IN MY DNA...

TO CONTINUE HEADSHOTS ON TROLLS....

WHERE BODY ARMOUR IS FOREWIDTH...

Jet reassesses, and adjusts crosshairs above BEANS chest-body-armor....no problem here......just exhaling.....whooooooohhhhhhhhhhh......crosshairs now, once again, centering on the middle of BEAN's forehead......he's moving to the left a little.....Jet readjusts......

crosshairs centered once again.....

....headshot being, yes, somewhat arrogant.....

...but I'm locked and loaded, Troll's forehead-sweat seen on da crosshairs....

And here'in lies a message for when you, my resident colleague, asks for a consult from a FLEA breatheren:

THANK YOU FOR THE CONSULT.

I'LL TAKE THE GOOD OF THE CONSULT AND APPLY IT.

AND I'LL TAKE THE BAD AND DEEP-SIX IT.

Yer funny (its me MW I just like my other username better so I changed). , I was dealing with that when you were just a youngster. Your stuff is fun to read though!!! Try ducking AK rounds and mortars in the middle of the desert then we will see what you got!

I will be more active here and try and stop whatever it is you call trolling (still don't get that).

He lives in New Orleans (during Katrina as well). He has seen just as much firefight as you.

Cheers.

Never said I was in a firefight, I said I was ducking pot shots and mortars....people who have actually been there know what I mean.

This is where I practiced for awhile...... Dogwood, Iraq (ORs are the boxes in the middle). It you look in the upper left corner, in that direction roughly 20 miles is Baghdad.

and this is the kind of stuff we were duckin'..... (I know "damn they missed"... but that is why I serve, to have the freedom to have open discussions)

Well if you guys don't mind I'll just continue to use my #5 in 34 oz Louisville slugger. I'll start with the knees and then move up slowly but surely towards the head. Now with the Troll on his knees beggin for a little mercy, I reach back like its the bottom of the ninth bases loaded 2 outs and down by 3 runs.

I know he coming with the heat and I'm posed to tear into it.

POWWWWWWWW

Line drive, straight out over the 440 sign in dead center.

Center fielder never moves.

I've always preferred what passed for martial arts in the Army. Hit them with what ever is handy until they are on the ground then kick them until they stop moving (then kick them one more time). Fairly effective. Of course in the theory of we're the US Army we're never outgunned:

I prefer my cousin's .223 AR-15 match quality rifle with which he takes out targets 1 feet in diameter out at 800-1000 yards...without a scope...

Unbelievable.

Recently I've fallen in love with the .243 round..

Anyone reload their own ammo here?

BTW, the barrett is nice, but I would LOVE to get my hands on a semi-auto AR-15 that fires the .50 beowulf round. Beautiful!
