Alright, dudes and dudettes.

Heres a little info about Patron tequila that you can use on your next date to impress your honey (or dude....for the dudettes and Venty......hahahahahahahahaha.....just kiddin stud):

Patron tequila is da bomb.

They make several grades but the most prevalent are:

Patron Silver: the one you get if you ask for Patron in a bar. Premium 100% agave tequila. Unaged.

Patron Reposado: Patron Silver thats been aged for 2-12 months, average of 6 months. Smooth.

Patron Anejo: Da Bomb. Aged greater than 12 months. Smooth, oaky taste. Sippin' on some as we speak.

The cats out there that say don't order a margarita with a premium tequila because you're wasting your money haven't drank enough margaritas.

I'm a wine guy.

Love cabernets.

Big, chewy wines.

Gotta pay the piper if you don't want a gasoline finish, though.

Silver Oak. Estancia. Opus.

And if you want an inexpensive very good cab, try Bogle. Set ya back less than fifteen bucks. Buy it. Put it on the table for the hottie. Pop the cork. Pour it. Taste it like you're a sommelier. She'll like it. And she'll dig you. All for fifteen bucks.

Or if you can find an older Ravenswood red-zin, thats a big wine too with a smooth finish.

But ya can't just be a wino.

So when it comes to spirits I like tequila.

And a margarita made with Patron tastes better than one made with a cheapo brand.

Trust me. I'm not a real doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Cheers!

Got a bottle sitting in my cupboard as we speak. It's been there since the beginning of internship. I apparently thought I was going to have time to enjoy it, but I guess I'll have to just make plans for it. Take it outside now and then. Get it a date.

Jet, as long as they're making your Patron margaritas with fresh squeezed lime juice and Cointreau, then it isn't a waste of good tequila. It would be a shame to dump Patron in a margarita made with Chi-Chi's margarita mix, or sweet & sour mix and bottom-shelf triple sec. Also, I hope you're drinking these on the rocks or straight-up and not **shudder** blended.

Patron is a great tequila, but its popularity has fetched it a super-premium price. There are a lot of other great tequilas out there that aren't marketed at the super-premium price that Patron is. As long as it's made from 100% Blue Agave, it's probably a good bet to try (to be called tequila a spirit only needs to be made from 51% blue agave -- the rest can be neutral grain spirits). Patron also makes a premium triple sec called Citronge that is meant to be mixed in Patron margaritas.

Either way, it sounds like you've gone a step up from ordering your margaritas with an extra shot of Cuervo Gold! ("Gold" in liquor terminology generally means "we added caramel coloring to make it look more aged than it actually is.)

Edit: I don't want to come off like a liquor snob - whatever tastes good to anyone is good enough to drink. It's just a shame that a lot of fancy bars and restaurants don't put nearly the amount of effort in to their cocktail menu as they do to their food menus. Cocktails -- or at least cocktails with premium spirits in them -- should always be made with fresh-squeezed citrus juices - never bottled or from pre-mixes.

Touche, Gim!!

No Chi Chi's here.

Whole Food's sells me alotta limes.

Nice tips to ensure a premium drinking experience. 👍

All this typing about margaritas made me really thirsty for one, and I just realized that I have limes leftover from New Year's from friends who were drinking Corona's (not my style, but I do appreciate the limes they forgot to take home). Sounds like it's about time for a Cuervo Tradicional margarita - I think straight-up tonight so I can sip on it for longer without diluting it too much. (Cuervo Tradicional is a reposado, and about the only tequila from the Cuervo lineup worth buying.)

My personal favorite is Don Julio. Its a sipper.

If I drink a marg, very rare. I will use patron, tres generaciones, or something of this caliber. I squeeze 1-1 1/2 limes into a tumbler. Add about 1 shot of triple sec (go for weaker lower proof stuff here) and then 2 shots of tekillya. Let sit for 2-4 mins and drink slowly. They will catch up to you.

As for wine. I like the Chateau St Michelle Cabernet

Vodka, now thats a whole different beast. I'm still testing this animal. Personal fav's, Reyka, 14er (Boulder Colo distilled), Ciroc, Chopin

Jet,
What year Bogle or Ravenswood?

Any ravenswood red zin pre-2003 were great, power. But even now, both of these wine's currently available vintages at your local store are a can't miss.

Ravenswood's oak and vanilla undertones are subtle. The peppery, spicy grooves are not subtle.

Someone with the avatar "Gimlet" should really only be concerned about the quality of the Rose's Lime Syrup, up vs on the rocks, and gin vs vodka. And while we're on the topic of Gin, I've had several gin gimlet's tonight with Scotland's finest: Hendrick's. That $hit's smooth....

Gin only in my gimlets - usually Plymouth, but sometimes Boodles or Broker's. I'd like to try a bottle of Old Raj sometime. Always rocks, and I go for olives instead of a lime for garnish.

Hendrick's is a great gin - very atypical with the cucumber and rose-petals, but superb nonetheless.

If I'm in Vegas, or in an otherwise deserving mood at the bar, I'll just order the "expensive tequila" warm, in the little sipper glass, with a Sangrita side car.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats that combination. The sting of the smooth tequila followed by the kick of the spicy sangrita is just awsome.

F-U jet for making me thinking about this again. Now I'm gonna have to drop 18 bucks on a tequila n' sangrita tonight.

Whats a sangrita, Homes?

Holy Hay-zeus dude.

Go look it up right now. Its this tangy, hot, sorta sweet, bloody maryishy type mix. Try it next time when you have a nice glass of tequila. You take a sip o' the tequila. Swallow. Then chase it with a tiny sip of the sangrita. Swallow. BAM. You'll wonder how the hell you got along without it. That is, unless you hate spicy stuff. However, I have yet to meet a person who likes tequila and DOESNT like spicy stuff.

EDIT: Works best with the darker more aged sipping tequilas.

You can be all pimp style and MAKE THAT $HIT YO' SELF. You'll look so studly. Jus' look it up on ye old google.

Just remember Jet, its not a true chaser. You follow a sip n' swallow of the tequila (room temp) with a sip n' swallow o' the sangrita (chilled). You'll feel like Scarface's decked out white porsche 911 with leopard interior in Miami cerca 1980 in no time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I loved Miami Vice, Venty. Thats my alma mater as you know. MIAMI.......hot place....goin' back in February....you're bringin' back Miami memories circa '88-92.....not a white 911 though....butta Countach....go ahead wittha white outside and leopard inside....don't matter....ittsa Countach!!!....room temp premium blue agave......chilled sangrita....I'm with ya...

Hmm I always bought silver and then when we were out my roomate comes home with Anejo. I tried it once and that bottle is still in the freezer. I might have to give it another shot.

The only time I drink well magaritas are at cheap mexican restaurants when they have magarita specials.

A good mojito is also something to be appreciated. Sadly those are few and far between in Alabama. I hope you had one when you were in Miami a few weeks ago Jet. If not, for shame.

Reading another thread, I remembered this old thread.

I've been drinking a few different Tequilas in the past month.
Going on the record as the official drink of steve is now TnT.
Tequila and Tonic.

1. Tezon

Patron Silver
Don Julio
Herradura

I can't drink it unless its blanco (silver). Maybe too many nights in college with the anejo, maybe I don't like the woodsy taste.
Went with a head to head on Friday and Tezon blew away Patron.

Could the fact that I pucked my guts out after a night of drinking margaritas while on Spring Break in South Padre Island when I was 20 have anything to do with the fact that I CAN'T STAND tequilla???:laugh::laugh:

No one is a rum fan?????

Since I got back from the islands I have been dying for the good stuff (one of my friends from down there brings me a good bottle every time he comes back) Best I ever had was this small batched one made by westerhall plantation in Grenada it was a blend of Cuban and Grenadian rums aged for 5 years... it was called Grand Havana I know they export it to the Miami market ! It goes really well with the Cuban cigars you could get down there!

Tezon, huh DUDE?

Gotcha.

I'll try it. Thanks for the tip!

And for SouthSideSteve, I hear ya on the mojitos.

Problem is I'm not a mint guy when it comes to drinks.

So I don't do the mojito craze.

Another good tequila is called Hornitos... I know funny name, but 100% agave teq. Plus it is a cheaper than petron and it is good s hit.

Ah, but my favorite liquor has to be Black Label on the rocks.

It may seem gimmicky but Cabo Wabo is really good - nice and peppery. If not anything else, Sammy Hagar did his homework when it came to drinking.

Nice thread Jet... but I have to add....
The Smoothest Sipping Tequila EVER produced:

Gran Patrón Platinum Tequila

Advice to all "single" CA-3s & Fellows that just became attendings: Cash in your phat signing bonus and get a bottle of this ridiculously smooth tequila at the swank lounge downtown. No mixing and No side-sipper either. Just straight warm platinum. The honey sitting next to you in the lounge will melt like butter. But don't drive her back to your crib unless you've already upgraded from the Ford Focus you've been rollin' in for the past 5 years... just let her drive.
