Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone is a resident at JFK in Florida or has recently externed there. I heard it was an intense program and then I read a review that there was a lot of down time sitting in the library so I have no idea what to think. I want to see if it's worth making the trip 🙂 Thanks for any info!!

I'm not intereste in staying around, but a lot of my classmates did some/all of their clerkship rotations in Miami. JFK has plenty of surgery and is pretty consensus as a top 3 pod training program in Florida (Orlando, JFK, Westside... maybe Palmetto if you can speak fluent Spanish).

JFK is in a very nice area, so between that and the training, it's generally a program that gets a lot of interest and many apps for interviews.

If you want to do residency in the southeast - or you just want to do high power clerkships to learn a lot, I'd highly recommend it (esp over travelling in the snow+ice during your winter externships).

I agree...I graduated from Barry 1 1/2 years ago and JFK was a popular program with some of the better students that wanted to stay in Florida. I knew a former resident and would've externed there but I just had to get the hell outta Florida!

I externed at JFK when I was a student. They have great cases and they have a great reputation in FL, but yes it is true.... they do have a lot of down time that you spend in the library. However, the down time is really up to you. You do have the choice to shadow the director at his private office at this time.

yeah but shadowing is like watching old people f....uhh paint dry
