I believe using the Impressions account for this purpose is kosher...

Now that ASTRO is out of the way, I am wondering if we could share some thoughts about job interviews. I do not expect people to share about jobs that they are seriously considering, but it would be helpful if people can let others know about serious red flags out there.

Let me start by asking a few questions...

Why does the Valley group in California (Drs. Botnick and Rose) get such a bad rep? Are other groups in California safe?

How about US Oncology or 21st century?

Any specific group that has a track record of repeatedly using hire-then-fire-before-partnership strategy?

Based upon several conversations with reliable individuals, 21st Century has a highly incentive-based salary system. Their starting salaries are highly competitive, and overall compensation can be quite good. However, the incentive based system means that there is competition within practices for referrals. In some of the more saturated markets, this often means long hours in an effort to stay ahead of the curve, probably leading to the conventional wisdom that you'll be paid well, but work like a dog.

I should qualify the above by telling you that this isn't the case in all 21st Century practices. Offices in less saturated geographies with laid back individuals can do just fine without the cutthroat element alluded to at some of the other centers. As with any "Mega-practice", a strength-in-numbers approach will typically ensure that 21st century facilities will remain competitive in saturated areas (i.e. Florida), will work to foster (or flat out buy) referrals, and that you won't likely find yourself on the short end of a buy-out.

Final equation, I think it's a situation that would be fine for some. It definitely has it's pros and cons. You'll never have anything like pro or tech partnership, obviously, but you'll have state of the art equipment and be able to make a very nice living.

I have thoughts on some of your additional questions, however, I'm keeping them close to the vest until I come closer to signing a contract (hopefully by Dec-Jan).
