Anyone have any insight to the job market in the Tampa area?
Specifically HCA?

I know of a good job in riverview. Another in Sarasota. Tampa proper is hca and team health so all have varying levels of suck.

Hca admin in general is not very anesthesiologist friendly. They’re very in cahoots with the aana. Aneftp can weigh in here better but they’re removing anesthesiologists from leadership and grouping them with other specialties. In my experience they always want something for nothing and will nickel and dime people. Their first objective is the stock price - that’s everything.

You find a good gig yet?

HCA? Nothing good.
17th century equipment, even propophol from pixes, for suggamedex you will need to write a 1 page essay on pink paper stating why do you need it, send it to pharmacy and pray it get approved
No/useless techs
Many aggressive/dumb/dangerous crnas
Call sucks, you will be called in if some gi will decide that he needs extra cash and will do outpatient scopes on weekend.

What's good about HCA?

That about sums up my experience as well. At least I sit my own cases.

Add to that: nice but incompetent, overconfident c-suite that has been trained wholly within the HCA system so are ill equipped to understand the market around them.

.

I will say the quality of hca hospitals varies. One I used to work at- level one trauma- anes techs took call from home - lol it’s over by the time they got there. And the techs were terrible… sometimes I’d call and I’d get in eating breakfast and she’d hang up. Just not paid enough to give a damn. They would run out of blood tubing (level one trauma!) and 18g piv.
The one I work at now has much better techs - we mostly do liver and kidney transplants there. The quality of this hca hospital is much much better.
That said meditech sucks in comparison to epic… patient keeper is the only half decent part of meditech.

Couple of the hca places have imploded in Tampa and surrounding areas.

They just sent an sos to multiple agencies for staffing needs.

Don’t fall for the beeper calls. If u want to work in sun city just do days

Your time is worth a lot to be on beeper unless you are a local 20 min away. Even as a local. I’d wouldn’t take beeper call with a gurantee flat rate

What kind of rates would you think is fair for their sun city location?

Fusion locums tried to low ball at $285/hr. Claimed it was the Florida market rate. I said that’s crna market rate.

They tried to find suckers everyday. As long as there are suckers willing to take low rates.

Also beeper call is an issue.

There is no fair market rate. Negotiate what you feel you are comfortable with.

Time and money. That’s what it comes down to.

It’s all a game folks. I will throw u guys a bone how the real locums games works.

The sun city south of Tampa gig all the people got texts about a few days ago.

This is the games the w2 folks do.
They are all hogging the 7p-7am shifts (the w2 docs)

Letting the locums docs do all the heavy work 7a-7p while they chill at night and minimize their workload (as they should)

But this is where the cat and mouse game comes.

The W2 don’t dictate the terms for contractors!

Play the game. Dictate your own terms as 1099

That’s what I mean by everyone is playing everyone when short staff. It has to be a better symbiotic relationship between full timers w2 and locums docs.
