Has anyone done the AAP Biotechnology MS program at Johns Hopkins University?
Some people were saying JHU AAP=Johns Hopkins Lite and the degree doesn't really hold much value, and I was wondering if this is true. Did this degree help you get into medical/dental school or industries? Is JHU AAP viewed poorly by other institutions/industries? Any insights/advice will be appreciated!!

Yes, the biotech MS is viewed as the lite degree, but it is extremely useful to receive a new GPA for graduate school. If you are serious about using the two years to get into a graduate program (MD, Phd, both, dental etc.) this is the formula that works:

1. Get a job at Hopkins as a research tech/assistant that will give you the opportunity to perform an independent project after training (get ready to work long hours and weekends)
2. Get into biotech MS program and use tuition reimbursement from Hopkins after your 6 month review (up to 10,000 a year I believe)
3. Take the night classes and complete a thesis that ends up in a first author publication (tricky to do in two years, but I have seen it done)
3a. The key is starting early, even before the MS in biotech starts and being very open about your expectations with your PI

In summary there are "harder" MS programs, but being a Hopkins student gives you access to resources (if you are on site in Baltimore) that I believe are unparalleled (shadowing, medhack events, presenting posters/talks within JHMI, volunteering, letters of rec, etc.). My warning is that the research makes or breaks the entire experience, and the success of your research project is almost completely out of your control. Basically, go get your Phd and then apply to NYU med.
