Hi, wanted to get some input on JHU vs Duke. Right now, my heart is with Duke as I have not gone to the Hopkins second look yet. My #1 priority is choosing the school that will take care of me, as I have a painful chronic condition, and money a close second priority.

JHU pros:
-received full COA scholarship
-good program
-attended undergrad here so have some people I know who I have enjoyed working with/doing research with

cons:
-super duper nervous about whether or not P/F is going to be removed. Heard the faculty and residency directors are very in favor of going to a graded system. Of course, also heard the students are very against it especially since the match hasn't been affected
-ugly campus and I don't like living in Baltimore (have lived here for 6 years and been going to the med campus for just as long).

Duke pros:
-good program
-most important for me is that the med school really seemed to care for their students (good accommodations for disabilities and I have chronic pain condition that I recently got diagnosed with that I have struggled to manage)
-P/F guaranteed curriculum. During clerkships, the instructor writes comments, at second look I was told that only the good comments show up on the transcript and the "constructive criticism" comments are shown privately to the student.
-beautiful campus
-flexibility of off weekends and 3rd year research year

cons:
-only received $50k in need aid and no merit aid. leaving $25k in tuition and also living expenses, including a car, to provide for. Would be around $100k in debt after the car and interest from loans. I only say this much since my family can pay for my rent and food and would be able to cover my tuition for MS1 and MS2.

Thanks y'all! If anyone knows the status of the P/F for Hopkins and can give more info, would be MUCH appreciated.

I think Hopkins will do a great job taking care of you as well, and since your second priority is money I think it’s JHU no brainer. That 100k will be a lot more after residency and interest rates before you can pay it off.

Dude... full ride is insane. Hopkins for sure! Quality of education is same at both, you're going to match incredibly well at both.
