July 24th MCATers...Score Count Down
Started by Nikki07
Aug 2005 PS 6 VR 11 BS 10 27 Q
JUL 2007 PS 9 VR 10 BS 12 31Q
My PS was usually in the 12 range, thought I did better there, but happy about the BIO score. On to sec apps.
My last practice scores were ranging from 32 to 37 before this test, so ended up on the low end of the scores, but still in the range. I was afraid PS was going to be low so I took the Aug 20th MCAT as well, interesting to see how that turns out.

20M, i am in disbelief.
How did you do on AAMC practices?
I am very happy and at the same time anxious.
I thought I have screwed the Jul24th test. I thought I am going to get a 25 or lower. I thought my PS will turn out to be a 5 or 6.
But I got 32R (12/9/11)
I can not believe this. I am very happy. but the thing is that since I was very scared I retook the test on Aug 9th. I don't know what will happen if I have screwed that test. I am very nervous.

May 2005: 9PS/6VR/8BS P (23)
July 2007: 10PS/8VR/10BS N (28)
I didn't think I did THAT bad on the writing section, but, what can you do? I'm very pleased with myself overall.

Aug 2005: 12P 10V 11B Q = 33Q
July 24th: 12P 11V 11B S = 34S.
ha! was expecting a better score on physical (was getting 13s and 14s on practice tests, kaplan and aamc). whatever. i can live with it. i've published, so hopefully i still have a chance at top-tier schools.

i'm in complete shock. 😀 i'd already signed up to retake because i was sure i bombed the PS, but i got:
PS 13
VR 15
BS 11
Total: 39N!
too bad my writing sample sucked, but i figure the 15 in VR will make up for it, right?

Writing section is irrelavent in US medical schools. I got an M in mine and I am not even thinking of retaking it.

I think 25.1 is the average.
I think 25.1 is the average.
does aamc list the stats on this exam? how can i see the curve?

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they release the curve or the stats for each individual exam.

sigh......i guess its time to hit the books again for next year (jan o8) test...feel so behind...i'm about to be 26 and still no where near getting in.
It's not impossible to be admitted with a 9/9/9... especially if you consider DO schools.
No score from Mombosuthu?
Mombosuthu scored a 28Q. LOL. So bring it on me for predicting opposite.
But I'm not retaking. I think it's too late.

Yeah, it's still possible to get in with that score especially if you have a good GPA and EC's. Good luck.

Wow. I had on my bullet proof as I though you'll come firing. lol.

Very nice on the 15
Have you always been good at reading comprehension/english? Did you use any particular prep company for verbal practice
While your undergrad GPA is a little low, i think with that MCAT and your Graduate GPA you should be able to get a fair amount of interviews, but after that, Who knows?!?!?!
Good luck!!!!
Good luck!!!!
Ive actually heard that many schools now view verbal more highly than the science sections. So congrats!!!
thats even better. verb is apparently the biggest indicator for USMLE performance.👍 plus, its the lowest section for most applicants, giving you a good advantage.
actually, wikipedia's article on the MCAT reports that BS is the best indicator for USMLE performance, followed by PS, then in dismal last place, VR; however, surprisingly many schools consider VR more heavily than other sections. I think some schools take your PS + BS + 2*VR + GPA*10 to get a special number that they use to rank you amongst the applicants. Notice how VR gets double the weight.
Yay!
PS: 13
Writing: N (no bueno!)
VR: 11
BS: 13
Couldn´t be happier...

I think the difficulty and subsequent curving of version 46 helped me a lot as I did much better than any of my practice (highest was a 38). I ended with a 40 R.
PS: 15
VR: 11
Writing Sample: R
BS: 14
I'm pleased

I think most schools don't weigh the GPA *that* heavily at all, actually because it's one of the least standardized things about an application.
I heard from a Doctor that Hopkins lays alot of emphasis on GPA. Anyone else heard anything similar?
It all depends on the school and the applicant.
It's retake time for me...
25P VR 9 BS 7 PS 9
And I honestly thought I did well, especially on BS and PS. How could my perceptions be so off? Did I fall for all the "traps"? Any thoughts? Should I get the exam rescored?

I'm sorry that you didn't do as well as you had hoped. I'm sure you can definitely improve if you decide to retake. What were the ranges of your practice exams?

I stopped taking practice exams 2 weeks before the MCAT. My last exam score was a 26 on AAMC10 (9PS 7VR 10BS). I only took four full-lengths, including a Kaplan diagnostic (21) and two Kaplan exams I took in the two weeks after my diagnostic (23, 24). My verbal with taking AAMC section tests and EK ranges from 9-11 (so I assumed the 7 on AAMC10 was due to a bad day).
I was expecting the worst for the July 24th MCAT since stopping with a 26 is not good at all... but due to the experimental passages in BS and the amount of passage-based application involved, I felt comfortable and honestly had high expectations. I've gotten over my depression about the score. The only thing that's bothering me now is how off my perceptions were. I have no clue where I went wrong.

Well you did score in the "range" of your practice tests. My first few practice tests were about the same as yours (Kaplan Diag 24, then 27, 30 and 26). But after about the fourth practice test, I started consistently hitting 30+. Going into test week my scores were still increasing, and I think that I peaked at the exact right time. Next time I would suggest taking more practice tests because that's how you can find your weaknesses and get the pacing/feel of the real test down pat. Good luck with all of your studies -- I'm sure you'll get 'em next time! 👍

Thanks 🙂 Goodluck with everything!
Originally in August I received a 26O (PS-8, VR-10, BS-8). Needless to say, I was disappointed.
I studied my rear end off this summer and after two solid months of studying my July 24th MCAT returned as a 31Q (PS 11, VR-11, BS-9). 👍 Again, needless to say, I was very pleased. That is a five point improvement.
My Kaplan diagnostic was an 18.
