Oh my god....it is comming!

RUN!!!!!!!!!!!

sigh. just took aamc 7, and didnt do so great compared to the other ones.. anyone else feel like so much rests on luck? I mean, I feel like I know everything and if I go back and review, I'll get bored because I'll feel like I know all of it. But on the test, questions just get.. ambiguous or weird sometimes, and you're pressed for time, and.. argh.

I hate how sometimes you're 1 question away from getting 1 point higher on the section and it brings down your composite.

Yup. That's the nature of the beast. Can't wait to put this thing behind me already.

Some of you guys have sick scores! I too wish I could do well in VR but I only get 8-9 (started at low 7) too with 10+ in other sections. Now if I could only get a 12 in VR.....

I have practiced sooo many passages I am getting sick of it. I've done 4 AAMC tests (28 passages) 4 Kaplan tests not including diagnostic (28 passages) and also 4 kaplan verbal tests (28 passages) and 3 EK tests (I think like 9 passages each?). Even though my score isn't getting to the 10 level, I am usually really close and since practicing all this content I am getting ffaasssttt at it (to me at least). Usually finish with 5 min left.

I ssooo agree with the dumb mistakes. I go back and I'm like....dduuhh! Why couldn't I see that! I find that the more I practice I do the less stupid mistakes I make which is good news.

The highest i've scored on any AAMC is a 30 on CBT-6 (i've taken 3, 7, 8, and 6 in that order). I felt like the bio was really tough and got an 11, my lowest bio yet. The wordings seemed REALLY weird and threw me off bigtime.

Compared to Kaplan tests, (which I feel are almost the same difficulty to AAMC except for PS) I am not doing as well on AAMC. I got a 34 on Kaplan-3 (11,9,14) which is my highest practice test yet. I feel because you can make stupid mistakes on the kaplan CBT's they won't hurt you as much. If you make one stupid mistake on AAMC, it can easily bring you down a full point.

I also feel like the AAMC tests are critical thinking while kaplan is all content. When I started doing AAMC's, I missed points because many answers can be found in passages, which I simply wasn't good at noticing. Like everyone always says, practice AAMC, practice AAMC, practice AAMC. Now I know why!

How are you guys calculating your "possible" best score on the real deal? Are you just taking the best section on 7,8,9 and 10 and adding them up?

It was the pdf from AAMC's website, under the student section for MCAT prep.

The aamc doc was copyrighted in 2003, which makes me wonder why kaplan hadn't updated their books made it 2006.

took aamc CBT10 this morning at 2-5am before bed,

PS-14-one wrong
VB-11-heard this VB is a lot like the real MCAT?
BS-13-with 3 reading mistakes, getting sleepy

scores seem to be stablizing....

I'm glad you are taking the 8AM. Makes the curve just that much better.

My scores haven't gone up at all since the first practice test I took a week ago. 5 tests later, I am getting literally the exact same score on every test. It makes me think I should just take a break and let luck run its course next Friday, since I don't seem to be improving....

I am taking the real thing at 8am. Man thats early! And I have to drive like an hour to get there.

Anyway, I took AAMC 8 today and got a 33 (10PS 11VR 12BS). This is the same exact score that I got on 6. Here are my practice test scores so far.

3: 28 - 9PS 9VR 10BS
4: 29 - 9PS 10VR 10BS
5: 30 - 8PS 10VR 12BS
6: 33 - 10PS 11VR 12BS (1 FREAKING question from a 12 on verbal)
7: 31 - 10PS 9VR 12BS (Whats with that VR score? I wasn't really concentrating I think)
8: 33 - 10PS 11VR 12BS (Once again 1 FREAKING question from a 12 in VR, and to top that 1 FREAKING question from an 11 on PS why does this keep happening to me????)

Well I am pretty happy overall with my test scores. If I could score as good on the real thing I would be stoked. I am going to take 9 on Friday and 10 on monday then nothing but chillaxing and light review until the real thing. I really just wish I could break a 12 in VR and bring my PS score above a 10. Any advice? I guess at this point its mostly up to luck

Whats everyone elses schedule up until the real thing?

Aamc 5

My scores are running the gambit from 29 to 35...WHAT THE F*CK

AAMC 9 => PS13,VR9,BS10 .. i'd do anything to raise that VR .. jeeze.

Anything? Geesh, I would love your PS score. How bout I take 1 point from my BS to give to your VR and you give me 2 points from your PS. You did say "anything" 😀

seriously, you can have 3 PS for whatever VR you can offer. I crave VR. VR is my fantasy.

Funny, my scores on CBT 6 were exactly the same in breakdown as CBT 8 as well, albeit I got a 30 (PS 10 VR 11 BS 9). Haven't taken 9 or 10 yet. I've heard 9 is easier than 8, but no idea if 10 is harder or easier than 8.

Its so frustrating how much going against your gut a few questions can change your score so much. I mean the difference between a low 30s and a high 30s is just a few questions. My goal is to get somewhere in the mid 30s (33-36)...i feel like my content skill is there I am just either making silly mistakes or going against my first instinct too much. I think its going to be fine tuning my test taking skill that will get me those few extra points...studying EK books more wont do me that much good at this point besides the few days before the test. Im going to save AAMC 9 for a few days before the exam...Are the lower AAMC tests really different than the real thing in terms of difficulty? Are they still good practice anyway? Good luck everyone...one week to go! :scared:

I know exactly what you mean, a question here and a question there can be the difference between a 30 and a 35. The frustrating thing for me is when I go back through I feel like I should have gotten all of the questions right that I missed except one or two. Hopefully on test day we can eliminate those stupid mistakes.

I feel like that's the case for many people. It's the pressure we're under and the time that causes us to make such careless mistakes. Each exam I know I can do 3-4 points better in both ps and bs because I know the information. It's so frustrating and I'm hoping to stop it before next friday.

Just finished AAMC8.....lowest score yet

PS-11
VR-9 :'(
BS -11

That is probably the lowest VR score I've ever gotten - and in general I got like entire passages completely wrong in all three sections :'( not a good thing one week before the real thing.

Just finished AAMC's CBT6, finally broke 40:laugh:

PS-15
VB-13
BS-13

Is it me or was this one especially difficult? both BS and PS had very forgiving curves, and I thought the Organic chem q's really kicked my ass.

i love it how people mention that a certain test was especially difficult, yet manage to score above a 40 on it. forgive me, i'm just jealous.

Personally, I thought it was very much the same as CBT 8. I got the exact score breakdown in both. I did think that PS seemed harder though, and was shocked I managed a 10. VR seemed par for the course. BS did have more orgo than 3, 4 or 5. But I think there's a similar amount of orgo in 6, 7 and 8.

FYI - It's a bit snarky to call a CBT "especially difficult" and get a 41. Have a little social courtesy for those of us struggling to break a 30. Regardless, congrats on breaking 41. I'm sure you'll do quite well on the real thing. Glad you're taking it in the morning (and not with me!).

ONE WEEEEK TIL D-DAYYYYY!!! :scared::scared:

I'm freaking out guys. I didn't study nearly enough this week (I've been too weak in the knees to study). Now I'm freaking out because I didn't study enough and now its basically too late to study!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh. I hope I don't faint in the middle of the test. On the bright side, I'm sure there will be a lot of certified EMTs in the test center ready to pounce on me so they can write their emotionally moving PS on how they brought back to life the poor girl who couldn't handle the pressure of the MCAT...

Starlight: I had the same problem. I barely studied this week. Was sick, and distracted. Great. Although, I'm going to try to get in six more good study/practice days. Which include taking CBT 10 (today/tomorrow?) and CBT 9 next Monday/Tuesday. I will definitely not do anything MCAT-related next Thursday or Friday (I'm taking it at 1:30pm next Friday). Luck be with us all.

I definetly can relate to what you all are talking about. At this point I feel like it is pretty useless to study much more and I just want to take this freaking test so I can get it over with already.

Hey guys,

I just took CBT 10 and got my highest AAMC score!!!!:
PS 12
VR 7 (1 question from a 8)
BS 13
32

I felt like the verbal wasn't THAT hard but oh well I don't know, it was my lowest AAMC VR. I DID expect it and in the back of my head in the middle of a few passages I brought down my confidency by saying: You know this is the hardest VR everyone does poorly on it. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID! I know it effected my performance.

I was on the cusp of getting 9's on all my past tests (1 question away) and actually got a 9 once. I don't know what the hell happened but I think it was a confidence issue with me and also not trying as hard because I thought I would do poorly anyway. I tried to block it out but I was too distracted with trying to "think" too much than normal about questions.

Anway I wanted to give you guys some input and encouragement on CBT-10. It seemed (to me) like the most straightforward test. There wasn't many tricks in question stems and I found it to be the easiest CBT I have taken yet (I have taken Kaplan 1-4 and AAMC 3,6,7,8,10). I know you guys will rock this test for sure because we have studied our asses off!!

Good luck

Confidence with VR has a huge impact on your performance.

😱 😀 👍

Thanks for the info, artaxerxes. By the way, you should stop worrying about the test because the lowest score you are going to get on test day is a 38. Guaranteed. 👍 In fact, are you sure you want to take the test on June 15? You are going to upgrade the curve for the rest of us who are barely breaking the 30s. 😳 vbmenu_register("postmenu_5236801", true);

thanks all
the reason I said CBT6 was difficult was that it did have an easier curve in comparison to 3,4,and10 which I had taken. It also had a heavy emphasis on synthesis and retrosynthesis which I think are amongst the tougher orgo questions out there.

BLARGH!! MY SCORES ARE GOING DOWNN!!

PS/VR/BS:
Kaplan Diag: 10/8/8 = 26
Kaplan FL 1: 8/10/11 = 29
Kaplan FL 2: 10/8/12 = 30 (skipped 2 VR psgs out of boredom...)
Kaplan FL 3: 12/11/13 = 36
AAMC 3: 10/12/13 = 35
AAMC 4: 11/11/13 = 35
AAMC 5: 13/10/12 = 35
AAMC 6: 13/11/12 = 36

Today AAMC 7:
13/9(!!!😱!!)/12 = 34 🙁🙁

Ok, so a 34 isn't a terrible score. Things were going pretty peachy in the PS section, and I felt like I understood the VR passages pretty well, but my score was terrible. I got 30/40, mainly b/c i bombed a psg I really actually DID understand. I don't know if I just lost my focus or what, but I wanted to shoot myself after I saw my mistakes...simple little reading errors

In any case, VR was 1 Q away from a 10 and BS was 1 Q away from a 13. I hate these single questions and stupid mistakes and how they can destroy your score!!! Now i'm in a bad mood. 😡😡😡. This is no time for my VR score to drop. *grumble*

3 more AAMC's to go...

Well since I just decided today to go for my retake this friday, I'll post the scores I got from the 3 practice test I took the past week and a half since I started studying again.

AAMC 3: 35 PS 11 VR 11 BS 13
AAMC 4: 36 PS 12 VR 12 BS 12
AAMC 10: 35 PS 11 VR 11 BS 13

Well I took AAMC 9 today.

33: 11PS 10VR 12BS

I have to say that I am getting really tired of taking these practice tests. All of this practice better pay off on the real thing. I was really distracted and definetly not putting as much effort into the test as I should have been. My score turned out alright but it could have been alot higher if I had taken the extra time I had to go back through and eliminate some stupid mistakes. And I know that my VR score would have been at least an 11 (1 question away) if I had been paying more attention. I have been studying for this thing for so long that it is getting harder and harder to keep putting effort into it. I am glad that I only have a week left and I can relax, do some light review, get this thing over with and go out drinking!

I'm SURE this is a really stupid question, but how do you guys know that you were "1 question away from a __"? How do you know what a 9, 10 and 11 are? I'm talking about the AAMC CBT practice MCATs, of course. I see the page with my score breakdown, but how do you know how many questions you were from the next score? Thanks.

If you go to the main page where it allows you to access all your tests there is a link on the left that says something like how is the MCAT graded. Click on that and it will give you the breakdown for how many questions equals whatever scaled score.

Thanks, Rollskins. Turns out I've been one point away from a 12 in VR and 1 point away from a 10 in BS on pretty much the last three practice tests I've taken. Argh. But good to know. Really takes the pressure off. Heh.

At least it shows that it's conceivable I could get a 32 (I've never broken past a 30, which I've gotten on three tests so far). I just need to get two points more....

Btw, I'm flipping out. I haven't been able to find my EK VR 101 passages book for two days and I REALLY need to practice because I've run out of time on the last two CBTs. I can't find it ANYWHERE, and I just went onto Amazon hoping to buy it with next day shipping, and it's UNAVAILABLE. ARGHGHGHGH!!!!! I really have looked everywhere. Don't know what to do.

Hell yeah...start the drinking after the test...but maybe too late for me haha! I've had a few drinks tonight at a friend's place and may be headed downtown.

I am like you, studying at this point doesn't do much its just seems like wasted time. Making sure I don't make stupid mistakes on the test would definately help more than studiying for another week!

spent all night shopping and NOT studying after my verbal "catastrophe" today. feel much better. just like the rest of you, i'm just trying to kill time until test day. not much use in studying now...gunna do some light review. 😛

The drinking after the MCAT is going to be unprecedented! All I know is that I am heading downtown to see a concert and I don't know where I will end up by the end of the night (or the morning) but I probably won't remember any of it. I am actually glad we don't see our scores immediately after we take the test like the do for the DAT (at least I think thats how it works). Other wise we might be drinking because we have to start studying again. A month is a little to long to wait but at least it gives us some time to party and think that we rocked it.

Speaking of which, if anyone's going to be in downtown Chicago to take the test next Friday and wants to throw back a few to celebrate the end (better be) of the MCAT, PM me. I'm taking the 1:30pm test.

taking it on june 15th, but my scores are starting to become weird -

took 1st back in march before studying and:

AAMC full length version test 3 - 7/8/11 -- 26

then, after finals and school year ending. started studying. took the free online princeton review one and got a very low score. then 1 week later, took kaplan online version and got an even lower score... then the next day after that -

AAMC CBT 5 - 10/9/12 -- 31

i had bought the "kaplan new mcat practice tests 5th edition" book (ISBN: 978-1-4195-4198-8) which had 2 of their practice tests

test 1 from that book - 12/9/11 -- 32

then 2 days from that test (i reviewed test 1 and learned some physics equations inbetween) -

test 2 from that book - 13/9/12 -- 34

i find it hard to believe i improved 2 points in 2 days... something's fishy with those tests i think. does anyone know which tests that book had?

it also had a huge curve for physical science section - but i read somewhere on here that it's because kaplan physical science sections are always really hard.

i also have princeton review books (the science workbook and the ICC). haven't done much from the ICC cause i heard it was alot harder than actual mcat. i also heard that the science workbook was also harder than actual mcat, but then i heard from this forum that the may 31st people thought the AAMC tests were too easy... so maybe the science workbook level questions are accurate to what the real mcat is?

i only finished the entire general chemistry section and was usually getting around 75% to 78% right on avg, with the ocassional 65%... but for physics, i wasn't doing well at all. i managed pretty good numbers for kinematics, but once it got into work and impulse, i started to drop in score horribly.

To be honest with you, that 2 point increase seems valid to me because you went up one point on two of the sections. On your test before that you may have been very close to the next point anyway. Consider it improvement due to hard work. 🙂

donno -

these were the cut offs -

test 1&2 -

raw PS -
32-34 = 11
35-36 = 12
37-39 = 13

T1 results: missed 17; 35 raw
T2 results: missed 15; 37 raw

raw VR -
33-34 = 9
35 = 10
36 = 11
37 = 12

T1 results: missed 6; 34 raw
T2 results: missed 7; 33 raw

raw BS -
38-39 = 10
40-42 = 11
43-45 = 12
46-48 = 13

T1 results: missed 12; 40 raw
T2 results: missed 9; 43 raw

from that, seems i was on lower end of cut offs for T1, but now that i look at it, going from 17 wrong to 15 wrong seems possible, and 12 to 9 wrong on BS seems possible too because im much better at bio then organic chem, and T1 seemed to have more organic chem than T2.

but it still seems kinda fishy to me. i'd love to know what test numbers those were... i plan on taking AAMC CBT 9 tomorrow, so i hope i do well on that.

dude. i just realized that i have completely been ignoring the Writing Section. HAHAHA. HAHAHA. 🙄

Yeaaahh... about that. I don't know how concerned to be about the writing section.. I mean, I try and write something each time, but I usually just want it to be over and write a crappy essay.

Did anybody do anything specific to prepare for writing, aside from looking at the sample essays?

I'm considering going to Wikipedia and looking up random stories about politicians, etc. that may serve as useful examples. 👍

I can just see completely blanking out and not being able to think of any real world politicians/examples. How much do you get marked down for completely making something up? Also, I haven't practiced a single writing sample. Hard to motivate to do it when you know the writing grade really doesn't matter. Especially if you get a decent VR score.

Per my friend who took it in April, he says it's a good idea to at least do one practice test before the real thing where you actually do the writing sample. Otherwise it can throw you off for BS.... Good advice, but I can't seem to motivate to do it.

so im done with my review and taken all the practice tests. But i m worried that I might start forgetting stuff. What are u guys plans to stay sharp this last week. I m also suffering from the fact that I just wanna take this and get it over with.

did you hear? The June 15th MCAT will remove verbal reasoning and replace it with a section on coloring in the lines and good handwriting. According to the authorities who administer the MCAT, the reason for this change is that doctor's need these crucial skills, which are an accurate indicator of their performance on the verbal reasoning section anyways.

 omg I hope not...VR is the only section I do decently well on! On that note though.....how is the PS section any type of indicator of our performance as future doctors....

I'm basically dead - can't motivate myself to study AT all, and went through doing some passages in physics today and realized I don't remember anything I've studied:S

I hear ya on the lack of motivation. I was going to take CBT 9 today, but I just can't bring myself around to doing it. I guess I will do it tomorrow. 🙁 It is so hard taking summer classes and doing this stuff.
