Hi, I was wondering about early graduation from college. I am a sophomore in college and I was calculating my credits and stuff and found out that I could graduate one year earlier (approx. summer of 2008). Does anyone know if optometry schools look down upon people who decide to graduate early or if it has some or no impact on your application?

Any response is helpful!!! Thanks! 🙂

If your grades are high and not compromised by your decision then it wont be a problem...but do something useful during your free time if you take time off during your absence from school. they like that kind of thing 🙂

Some schools don't even require a Bachelor's degree, as long as you have done well in all their required pre-reqs. I just got accepted to IU for next year, even though I'm only a junior now. I asked them if that was a factor in their decision, and they said it didn't really matter one way or the other.

But, I don't think many schools do that. So the opinion on graduating early would also depend on the school, mostly.

I'm graduating a semester early, and I've talked with a couple of schools (SCO and I think PCO) about it b/c I've taken science and math classes over the past couple of summers and wasn't sure if that was okay, but they said it was fine. If you can graduate early, go for it! But as another poster said, do something useful with your free time - I plan on getting a full time job with an OD after I graduate until I move off to whichever school I get into. 🙂

If I decide to graduate early, would it be wise to apply to get in 2008? Because a lot of people that I've talked to thought it wasn't a good idea and I just wanted other opinions.
